I think there's a strong possibility not many of the wonderful folks would turn up in a chat room, either, considering it hasn't been asked for very often.

You could always use the pointless thread. That's close.

Didn't some of us play with this Firefox plugin a long while ago? It basically uses a public IRC channel to host chat for whatever URL.

But interest waned. If we were starved for realtime chat, we'd have found a way by now, beyond the usual instant messenger clients.

There are perhaps twenty regular posters on F:F:F, and some much larger and uncounted number of lurkers. And right now there are three people in Chat, but there's no way of knowing exactly who until you are in there, and the chat room she finds not so comforting. It's strange even with friends, like sitting in a pitch−dark cellar conversing with people at a distance of about fifteen feet. The hectic speed, and the brevity of the lines in the thread, plus the feeling that everyone is talking at once, at counter−purposes, deter her.

I don't know if this has been officially answered or not but I am curious.

Tiger, are you William Gibson's publicist or a Penguin/Putnam employee?

I don't have anything from you, MOM. Did you e-mail to webmaster@williamgibsonbooks.com
Or you can post here in this forum, of course.
Thx

Yes, sir, that's the address I sent it to. Not something I'd care to post in the clear.

Check your spam trap for a gmail message, sent within a minute or two of my initial post. Word "query" in the subject line.

The board is down.
The domain name has expired.

We're only there because we added the IP in our hosts file.
