If I get the 25000 Norwegian back from the credit card fraud in time, I can see myself blowing it all on Vancouver in October.
And then I will be so poor that all meats will b safe from me for years to come. |

Boogerhead - if you mean the CBC event, you could still get in - there is room, according to the email I received from them (got a pair of tickets myself, one of which goes to CKC).
Event page There's no huge "Terms and Conditions" page, so I imagine you could try for a pair of your own. Just enter soon, so they can get you your tickets by then. If they won't send to the US, I could send you my address (or maybe CKC could). |

Great - the day I leave to go hunting for three weeks is the day that rat-bastard Gibson shows up.

Three @un*ing events in W***ipeg? And he can't even make Minneapolis? Weird. Well, I guess I might break my rule and go back there for one of those - while I'm at it I can do some research for my story that never gets finished.
THREE! *shakes head* |

It's actually a nice place to visit (and that's especially true for pretty much all of greater Manitoba). I found I could only truly learn to absolutely loathe and hate the place by living there. Which is all good by me. Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention (back on topic!) my wife was talking to the owner of the bookstore where she went to a signing recently, and down here they have to bid to get an author in; the publishers get all the cash, and I suppose the authors just go where they're told and get all the regular traveling freebies. Don't know if it's the same with Gibson's publishers or even if that's the case with the Canuckian dates but it makes me wonder what they're thinking about with those clusters. |

I was wondering if maybe these dates from Penguin were just tentative dates? I can't find anything about them on any of the official websites (McNally Robinson, Winnipeg Words/Thin Air, Winnipeg Public Library/Millennium Centre or the MB Theatre for Young People). Thanks for posting them, BTW - I'm certain I would never have known about them otherwise. |

I feel a bit better about that cluster, now, given that most of them are pay-for events. The festival sounds like fun. ================= Hi Gary, Sorry for the delay in responding to your email. Our full schedule will be posted on our website on September 5th but I can tell you that William Gibson will be doing a reading/interview on Thursday, September 27, and Afternoon Book Chat on Friday, September 28, and our mainstage Friday, September 28 event. Our paid events are the mainstage shows (including matinees) $12.00 at the door, the William Gibson event on Thursday, September 27 $5.00 and the French Gala evening $10.00. All other events are free. You can purchase a festival pass for $35.00 that will get you into ALL paid events. If you need any more information please do not hesitate to contact me or check out our website at www.winnipegwords.com after September 5th. I have a query in to the CBC: the email they sent out had the Book Club taping today at 6:30 till 8:00, but the CBC website today says 7:00 till 8:30, and I will post in here if I hear back.

I emailed the CBC with this same question and haven't heard back. I'm planning to split the difference and arrive for 6:30ish. |

I was there - first time seeing, and meeting, t3h Gibson.
Sorry I didn't take notes, but I couldn't have kept up and still have been able to read the chicken-scratch that resulted. Hopefully other, swifter, Wigbers did manage to take notes - or even make their own recordings. The Man read chapter 12, and part of chapter 17 (the drive in the Maybach with Bigend). The first audience question, in academ-ese, and the answer, were great. I became too absorbed in the whole thing to remember much more, in detail. The good news is that the whole deal will be available to download as a podcast here, on the 19th this month. |

I can't wait for the podcast either! it was such fun, and I thought it was really cool that he didn't just give pat answers or whatever, he really considered the questions (some v good ones). Biggest faux pas of the evening: CBC lady explains to the uninitiated listener that the movie Gibson is talking about ("if Sony Pictures Classics had released the movie that I wrote, and that we filmed, it would have been a lot better") is The Matrix... Ouch. She was firmly (but politely) corrected by basically everyone in the room. Fun times! _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |
