No, the hat was a present for someone. It was sent to Canada. You might see it if you go to Toronto!

I was much later out of work that I thought. Lots of new patients over the weekend and lots of them could go home Monday. It was chaotic trying to get them all discharged and do all the routine stuff. My registrar changed his mind about draining some chap's chest and it took ages to suck the fluid out and it was really sore on my back.

Anyway, I got away at four and blitzed it back to Glasgow to get the train. Just made a connection to the 'Burgh and arrived safe at Haymarket. Got hopelessly lost in the city but fortunately they're prepared for that sort of thing and produced little maps. Thanks random theatre box-office man!

The talk was introduced by a "local author" who had a voice like Alan Rickman and sounded like he really disliked William Gibson. Perhaps he's just naturally disdainful, I don't know.

"Wullie" read Chapter 2 of Spook Country and then questions were asked. I wrote down what was said to write a wee article. At the moment, the only question that springs to my mind was this girl with a pink bob who asked "Why are all the girls in Neuromancer sex objects" in a tone of voice that meant she could leave out "you BASTARD!" off the end. *Headshake*.

I took photos when I got the archaic flash to work and got my book signed. I also got the chance to ask a question at the signing about how much time is spent researching versus making something convincing.

I met Crash too!

All in all, ACE!

Hm, how did he graciously answer that one, I wonder. He always seems to come up with gracious answers. I'd be tempted to say, "Oh, you mean why do they have sex with boys? Except for 3jane, I think she swung both ways. Come to think of it, she wasn't much of a sex object, either. And I didn't see Linda as a sex object. Forlorn and doomed lost soul, maybe, but not a sex object. Are you sure you've read the book?"

I don't think he really answered it; although I seem to get a "product of the world they're in" theme to the answer. He sort of skirted around it in a way that most politicians would give their right arm to be able to do.

I'd like to know the same. Anywhere within a flying/sailing/crawling distance from the UK would be great. I just missed both London gigs because I had to be a zombie in a film shoot, which is just sad.

Hmm, it is slightly überwhelming to realize you're in the presence of a superior being.

Yes, but you'll get over it.

Saw Mr. Gibson in Toronto last Friday evening, in church! This was where the reading was. I asked a remarkably stupid question , that ,had I done my homework, I would have been spared the embarassment. I confused authorship of a quotation from another , different, William Gibson with the man proper. He was gracious when pointing this out. Later , during the signing, he was game for a photo for showing off our collective watches.I blamed him for my becoming a watch otaku due to ATP. He was not wearing his JLC Mark 11 , but I brought mine. In my giddiness, I neglected to ask about the watch he was sporting. A very kind and accomodating man. But what was the Special Gift from the Usual Suspects? Inquiring minds are curious to know.

p.s. I would upload some photos if someone would gently explain to me how to do so. Or , I can send them to someone who has the necessary privileges.

if they're already online, all you need to do is paste the image location into the slot when you click on that landscape-looking button next to the envelope in reply.

otherwise, the WGB can host the pics, you need to click new up the top of the page, choose photo album and follow the prompts. you may need to resize the pics before uploading to a photo album. then you can make links to the album etc etc.

btw i'm a real novice, if anyone else tells you any different, believe them!

Hi Mark 11,

I'd love to see those photos. Unfortunately you can't upload images in any of the threads in the Announcement section. However if you post in some other places, like
Spook Country Book Tour Photos will have a link at the bottom where it says "Add attachment".

The gift from the usual suspects was a hard copy of the image of the Wigbers gathered before his reading in London.

You know, this one is great in black and white: somehow you all look like the essence of yourselves...

that's a GOOD thing
