Canada? Anyone?

The man *lives* in Vancouver, right?

I'm begging: Please can we please, please have a Vancouver date on the tour schedule? I'll pay his travel expenses to get to it (shouldn't be more than $10 or so, even by taxi).

He's done the Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival before, so if he's in Van in Oct. I'd put my money on that. No idea when their schedule comes out though.

But, but, that's like...let's see... a quarter of a YEAR away! I think I'm gonna cry.

Why does Penguin spurn the author's very hometown? I move to Vancouver and he goes off and reads in all the places I used to live? What have I done to deserve this? What's Seattle got that Vancouver hasn't got?

(Not that I'm taking it personally.)

I don't know but I love to opin on things I don't know about so I'll speculate for you. Maybe Penguin sees the 'tour' as a mainly a vehicle to generate local press- gives the local reporters a chance/reason to do a feature on WG/Spook Country. Here in Van he'll get a ton of press without doing a signing so why bother? Either that or maybe it's considered tacky now to do a signing in your home city.

Hint Hint. CBC's Studio One Book Club, like what happened with last time with "Pattern Recognition". I seem to recall they had a studio audience or something.

Just like he did a "This Is Not A Reading Series" (TINARS) in Toronto last time too.

It's not listed on the official Forbidden Planet website. Can anyone confirm a London (or any other UK) signing date please? I'm going to need to book time off of work. I've got a 1984 Ace Scince Fiction copy of Neuromancer that's begging to be signed!

What exactly is going to happen at this event?

(I work in Greenock and finish at five. I'd been getting there at seven by the skin of my teeth, so I'm having major internal dialogue here.)

at a guess, never having been to an event at the book festival, but having been to book events - i would suggest he will read a bit from his new novel, answer some questions, sign some books. hopefully something like that.

crash and i will be there at least. if you are planning to go let us know. i'm thinking i'm going to take the day off, since i'm going to london for the rest of the week anyway.

Ace. After fighting with travelinescotland for about fifteen minutes (their new version is convinced there is no such place as Edinburgh Waverly...) I've worked out that I can get there on time, so I'm going to book a ticket and hope for the best.

It would be neat to meet up. Sadly, I can't just take the day off because I work shifts in a hospital. Assuming that no one crashes on the ward, I'll be able to leave on time and get the train. If I can't make it, it's probably because someone's been taken ill.

If you chaps want to go for a drink afterwards, I'm the harassed looking girl reeking of antiseptic.

you can book tickets online, though i had problems - wouldn't accept my card number, and i found the interface clunky. i should have asked what the event actually entailed when i phoned, oh well.

i guess it'll be from 7 till 8.30-9, i'm sure we can hang out after.

I had seen a warning at the site that tickets for some authors were sold out. Too prophetic.

So you need a couple days off to come to London...

The electronic newsletter of the Vancouver International Writers & Readers Festival http://www.writersfest.bc.ca/ announced today that Gibson will be appearing at this year's festival.

No details yet, but the festival takes place October 16-21, 2007 in Vancouver, B.C.
