FP...I downloaded two days ago and listened as best I could to Barbara, and Gibson's thinking out loud. Had to bail at the time of questions and just go groom and run to work. THANK YOU for this link. I just so like them both. I take comfort they are out there, spreading their thoughts. I am not alone.
When I am done listening to everything, you can bet I will respond to any references you might make. Hee. Looking forward to it, fyi.

My RSS feed says it was written by The Man, but the site itself is down right now (slashdotted? must check...)

Update - this link works: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.07/gibson.html?tw=wn_tophead_6

Gibson has an article in the latest issue of Wired about the technology of the latest U2 Tour. I'm not sure how I feel about Gibson's relationship to this band. At one point, I guess it could be said that they were iconic, now I think they are just kind of sad, enjoying a kind of rock star royalty that is generated by slick marketing rather than having any relevant musical message. I think that fans a little older than me (23 y.o) will probably disagree with that. Bono's whole image makes Rei Toei seem as workaday as Bob Dylan and maybe that's the draw for Gibson. Bono is like a real (albeit cartoonish) version of the idol archetype that Gibson has explored. Sorry if this doesn't belong in this forum. I think it did when I started typing it.

Great that he comments on the U2 interview in his blog for August (doesn't like his own voice-- who DOES?) -- and two days ago he also discusses the photo JRE uploaded of a possible shop window Cacey looked into-- and shows HIS inspiration Smile

THROUGH THE WRONG END OF THE TELESCOPE
WILLIAM GIBSON, SPIDER ROBINSON | MODERATOR: DR. JAYMIE MATTHEWS, PROFESSOR OF ASTRONOMY, UBC
7:00 PM
H.R. MACMILLAN SPACE CENTRE AUDITORIUM | $15
Seeing what is in the distance close-up is an art, as astrophysicist Dr. Jaymie Matthews well knows. Seeing what is in the future close-up is another art, as science fiction writers William Gibson and Spider Robinson have proven. Dr. Matthews leads a speculative discussion on the face of society to come, our relationships
with robots, space pollution, the ethics of space travel and the fate of the world.
This event is a co-production with the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre.
