I'm thinking of hitting Powells in Portland for the signing on Feb 9 -- silly question to someone who's been to this sort of thing before: Will they have great heaps of Pattern Recognition laying around to sell to the (probably rather large number of) attendees, or should I be planning to get a copy beforehand and bring it with me?
They will probably require that you buy it there. In fact, you will most likely have to produce a receipt in order to be able to just get a place in line.

.. manage to get to that Bookstore in Copenhagen? Any reports, intelligence, dirt, gossip? Or even a sighting of a tall thin tourist carrying a bag of super-dark , super-indigo G-star jeans in one hand, and a vente Starbucks in the other?

I went, and I also attended the interview afterwards. Apparently the bookstore was only supposed to be selling the Danish version, but they had decided to throw in the English version as well, at a much cheaper price. Most of the people I saw in the line bought the English version, so I imagine the Danish publishers will be having a word with the bookstore Has anyone managed to take a look at the Danish version (I got the English version)? If so, what are your thoughts? The interview was pretty nifty, mostly consisting of Gibson talking about the book and sci-fi in general. Most notable in the rumor-department was that he would neither confirm nor deny the rumors about the Neuromancer movie... No indigo jeans in sight

Cool! What's the cover like? CD and map of London or something else? Maybe they (the publishers) should have printed the book with Danish and English in the same cover, just flip it over for the other language. Have you a scanner?

Sorry, no scanner The English version had the CD and the map, which is the version released in England, I think. The Danish cover has Gibson's name and the title in black and white, and nothing else. The Danish publisher hasn't got a website (according to Google), but I found a small picture of the cover at a Danish online bookstore Bookland.dk (in Danish). A bilingual version would be a great idea, though I think it would be pretty expensive.
I found the English cover and the American cover much better.
There seems to be a trend in Danish book covers to highlight the author rather than the book itself. This seems to have started when the Thomas Bredsdorff book "Kaos og Kærlighed" (Chaos and Love) was released in it's 2nd edition in 1995. Most of the cover consistede of a photo of the bearded Bredsdorff.
He got teased quite a bit about this by the weekly newspaper "Weekendavisen", but basically it started a trend, where the author takes on a more predominant role on the book cover than the book title or subject.
Here are som examples from the Publisher Gyldendal, who started the trend in Denmark.
All examples in Danish, but just check out the graphic design of the covers.
