Unfortunately I'm not familiar with those authors, but Marquez I do know, and he's quite amazing.

My first reading here was about a month ago, for Bruce Sterling's new book, Tomorrow Now. He gave an absolutely hilarious reading from a chapter about trends in the business world.

A Vancouver signing would certainly be a welcome addition!

Or did I miss something...? ;-)

It is only 3 hours until William Gibson's scheduled appearance at the Park Branch of the San Francisco Public Library, located squarely in the Haight Ashbury District. The last time I went to a signing there, it was for Eric Burden - rather crowded, but a wonderful time overall.

How about Halifax, too? I can think of more than a few people who would be really keen on Mr Gibson coming round. Big Grin

According to Bakka book store (or at the least the woman behind the counter at Bakka book store) the book tour comes to Toronto end of March/Beginning of April. Even though Bakka is a Science Fiction/Fantasy book store, four months ago they had no idea that this book was even coming out. Believe at own risk,

For those who missed the reading/discussion/signing last night at Powell's here's a link to a friend's blog that has some notes and quotes from the floor:

...or rather, he won't be signing at the Astor Place Barnes & Noble no more...

Am I just losing my shizznit, or am I the only New Yorker who thought WG was going to be signing at the ASTOR PLACE B&N, not the considerably larger UNION SQUARE branch, about 6 blocks away?

Perhaps it was an error on Penguin Putnam's part, but the last time I checked PP's Author Events Database, my (human? fallible?) optical apparatus had The Elusive K signing @ Astor Place, not Union Square. Just thought I'd mention this to see if my slopes have become slippery in this now T-Minus 40-hour countdown phase till WG Ecstasy...

(I even hear I might have a "new" pair of pants to go with the event; think gomi no sendai meets Mole People chic. They will reportedly rival Joe Blogworthy's fictional chinos, "New from Victoria’s Sprawl...classic five-pocket jeans in traditional burgundy calfskin sport double-thick knees, plus slender 9” pockets on either thigh, just right for a balisong and a spring-steel cosh…”)

Daddy don't drive in that El Dorado no more (but he would roll up 16th Street in one to blow the Tupperware over to Hackensack...

A margerita in freefall,

Carol A. Wade

The NY signing has always been at the B&N at Union Square, not at Astor Place. Not sure what database you've been looking at, but the tour stops have been posted on this board [at the top of this thread] for a long while.

Thanks

Pattern Recognition's not released in the UK until April 24th [per www.penguin.co.uk], so the dates may not be set yet. I'll see if I can find out and add them to this site.

A Canadian tour would definitely be cool, specifically a stop in Toronto.

However, if you do a search for "Pattern Recognition" or "William Gibson" on penguin.ca, there doesn't seem to be a record of Pattern Recognition at all (but his other books show up). Considering I bought the book in Toronto last weekend, the absence is a little odd.

A stop in Edmonton would be nice too, it's cold as hell but a pretty literate place, and some very good indie book stores left.

I have a signed Pattern Recognition, but I've got a 10th anniversary copy of Neuromancer that's desperately in need of signing too!

Yeah, I think it's pretty safe to say there's a large Toronto fanbase... Do we have ANY details on a Canadian tour? Cuz I'd love to get a copy of the book signed, but if we have to buy it there to get it signed, I'll hold off on buying it till the signing date (as horrible as that wait would be)

Denver signing was last night. Mr. Gibson read part of chapter six and then did a Q&A. The Q&A was very enjoyable. His humor is the most distinguished feature. When I approuched him to have him sign my book, I froze up and couldn't muster up any words of witt. Luckily my wife, who was standing next to me, caught Mr. Gibson's attention with a fresh copy of Bizzare in her hand. He asked if she "read that often." My wife had forgotten that she had the magazine in her hand with Dita Von Tesse's breasts eagerly diplayed on the cover. She turned red and I remained frozen. I did get to shake his hand though and tell him thanks. It was a true pleasure.

The New York City signing was tonight, and pretty packed. He read the beginning of chapter 36, and handled the Q&A with a lot of ease and casual wit. There was one elderly Charles Manson lookalike who insisted Gibson use the word "ruminate" when describing Cayce's eating.

"Wouldn't that make her a cow?" was the response.
