Thanks for reminding me tiger68! I gave up trying to get the book in the UK and in the end had it sent to me by a family member in Singapore. They sent it on a Saturday and I received it on a Wednesday - probably faster than if I had ordered it straight from amazon.co.uk (but a whole lot cheaper!).

I guess Gibson won't come before at least the release date of the book(!), so I can chill a little bit and cross my fingers.

Let us know what you find from Penguin! Thanks.

your absolutley right tiger68/ when you wrote

You're way off base on your other point-

but for the guy who "invented" the word cyberspace you internet presence is crap

The author has been highly visible here, for months, sharing his thoughts. That's presence.

i ment this more as an attack on william gibson's publisist/ publisher/ whoever deals with his advertising/ they are maybe not doing the best job they could of keeping the fans up to date on what is happening

as far as gibson's "internet pressence"/ the combination of his blogs and this forum is brilliant/ other authors should take note...

now if only i could choose my words as well as the man himself i wouldn't get into these sorts of messes Big Grin

Namely, Iowa City, Iowa, which isn't really as removed as people might think it. There are several excellent local bookstores in the business of hosting readings and signings (ok, only one, but so fine a bookstore that it shouldn't matter), and please Mr. Gibson, won't you do it for the fans?

(BTW, I lurve this font.)

I wonder... with all the people wondering if a signing would take place somewhere close to them, guess it is verging on the improbable that any such event could happen in Moscow or St.Petersburg Smile

Though that would be oddly appropriate for this particular piece of Mr.Gibson's prose, and I'm almost sure there would be quite an attendance.

I think an appearance in Russia would be good PR
for an author like WG.

A lot of historical change seems to happen in Russia - and that's one of the things that WG's writing is about.

Yeah, Why not??

Are you going to be cruising the Eastern U.S. like you did back in '98, and not attending lit-cons?!

And for everyone else, Rudy Rucker, another Father of Cyberpunk fiction, will be Guest of Honor at ReaderCon 15, a science fiction literature convention (a 'lit-con' to distinguish it from 'media cons' with TV actors). ReaderCon 15 will be held July 11-13, 2003 at the Burlington Marriott in Burlington, Massachusetts. Hal Clement, SF Grand Master, will also be a GoH. I just thought everyone might want to know.

I wonder if some hardback publisher somewhere is dusting off a fat publicist, weaning him off his milk stout long enough to waddle out to the microphone and be 2006's analogue to the Rhodesian Air Force's Blue Leader* on the Westlands Farm raid. I wonder.

*Slurred, cirrhotic voice murbling into a face-mask mike: "Blue Leader's acceleratin'!"

I almost met Gibson at the 1996 DragonCon, the theme that year was "The Fathers of Cyberpunk"...he cancelled. Frown But I did get to meet Rudy Rucker, and Bruce Sterling. They're both very nice guys. Also the co-author of the Cyberpunk Fake Book was there. R. U. Sirius. He was pretty cool too.

Timothy Leary was supposed to be there too, but he died the Spring before the convention happened.
