First indication I've read of the book's corporeal existence:

~ Years of being sent free books by publishers have made me something of a jaded bastard. But I uttered an involuntary 'sweet' today when I opened a package containing an early copy of Spook Country, William Gibson's new novel, which is due out August 7.

You know what this means guys, right? The ARC's are out!!!
time to hit the used book sites. Big Grin

Never mind the fact that they usually have "not for sale" on the back cover....

The Strand? Yeah... I found a used book I'd been looking for for ten years. It was, like, ten bucks.

I guess you had something specific in your mind.
That place was too chaotic for me and their sci-fi 'section' is .... well not.
I like to browse. I couldn't browse in there.

Have you ever tried abebooks.com?

You mean, apart from that low buzzing noise? Yeah; this:

...their sci-fi 'section' is .... well not.

Heh. You got that right. hurtstotouchfire wrote a blistering screed on that very topic after she, digitalprimate, and I visited it in 2005. Pathetic, really. Manhattan didn't seem to be a good place for used SF.

Have you ever tried abebooks.com?

Yup. Been buying stuff through that site for a couple years. The Vestal book either hadn't been listed on it back then, or was only on offer by sellers who expected overnight payment in Nigerian schillings and shipped only via UPS Brown.

Akk. Don't joke about Nigerian schillings. How long do we wait before the book reaches Afrika?

Sigh. My other name for myself on the WGB was always going to be "Cargo Cult". We do just have to wait and see what floats ashore here.

Ah, man. I JUST can't wait.

I overcompensated because I've always felt I arrived late to the Gibson party.

Just like another stimulating activity - some people have to pay to get it, others get it for free! Wink
