I thought the PR cover was fairly forgettable and uninteresting. Nothing like these beautiful Spook Countries here.

With Photoshop, I could have made it even uglier.

So here's yer moment of apophenia. While looking for a nice part of the New York grid to background that Ososhi bow I found this cross-roaded park and just liked the look of it (although it might be difficult to tell why after my abuse of the image). But then I thought it would be more appropriate to use the area of the city referred to in the section of the book being referenced, so I went and checked the post.

*pauses for effect*

That is the area of New York referred to in the post. Union Square and 16th Street. Spooky, no?

Which post was that? Because I'll actually be there on Friday; going to a camera shop two blocks north. I'll take a picture.

Some variations on the excellent photo by Mean Old Man:

First Variation on Spook Country Cover
Type above is Berliner Grotesk. Thought I'd try for the "distressed photo" look. Following images are experiments on placement and one font variation using the IM Fell DW Pica font, a digital version of a very old font.

Second Variation on Spook Country Cover

Third Variation on Spook Country Cover

I like martin's the best, so far. The photo has the crisp resolution and sharp edges/angles that make me associate it with the digital world. The fact that it's a ship, I think, says a lot about how the physical is becoming a thing of the past and we are moving ever closer to a non-geographic world. Good job!

very nice, imo you might want to drop the "by:" but I love the perspective and the effect.

did you take the pic?

Thank you very much for the compliment! I was thinking about dropping the "By:" as well.

Sadly I cannot take credit for the photo. I got that off a royalty free site.

Here is the cover without the "By:" on it.
