I thought the PR cover was fairly forgettable and uninteresting. Nothing like these beautiful Spook Countries here.

With Photoshop, I could have made it even uglier.

So here's yer moment of apophenia. While looking for a nice part of the New York grid to background that Ososhi bow I found this cross-roaded park and just liked the look of it (although it might be difficult to tell why after my abuse of the image). But then I thought it would be more appropriate to use the area of the city referred to in the section of the book being referenced, so I went and checked the post.

*pauses for effect*

That is the area of New York referred to in the post. Union Square and 16th Street. Spooky, no?

Which post was that? Because I'll actually be there on Friday; going to a camera shop two blocks north. I'll take a picture.

Type above is Berliner Grotesk. Thought I'd try for the "distressed photo" look. Following images are experiments on placement and one font variation using the IM Fell DW Pica font, a digital version of a very old font.

Somehow it's starting to make me think of ...

Oh, and martin, thanks for the initial version, really. It did get me started.

I like martin's the best, so far. The photo has the crisp resolution and sharp edges/angles that make me associate it with the digital world. The fact that it's a ship, I think, says a lot about how the physical is becoming a thing of the past and we are moving ever closer to a non-geographic world. Good job!
