Yes, I understand now. Happened on the second read through of both SC and PR... Oddly enough, I would've bet a certain party wouldn't remain a ghost forever, especially in relation to the title of the second book in what will certainly be WG's third trilogy... His misdirection was so well accomplished however that I completely missed it the first time through. Did you? Or does anybody but the author know what I'm talking about? Since this forum is called *no spoilers* I'm unable to be more direct (see subject for clue)... good hunting... paulf

What exactly makes you think the author knows what you're talking about?

Why don't we start things a little closer to home, shall we? Do you have any idea what I'm talking about? Or is WG's mind its own spook country as far as you're concerned? My advice is, follow the clue I left you and see what happens. I'd be very curious to see what you make of it. Does anyone else out there see it?

If you're not concerned with being mysterious, you could always post in the "SPOILERS ALLOWED" forum.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, then you will realize that your theory has been debunked more than once already.

If it's been debunked, then I am obviously wrong (maybe). However if it's already been discarded as a possibility then there's no harm in saying what it is, is there? So why don't you say what it is and I'll tell you all the reasons for such an obvious (and if I read your tone, ridiculous) mistake.

We can't.

This is the 'no spoiler' section.

I'm not suggesting it's ridiculous; I am only speculating as to what it might be.

Maybe we should move over to the debunked section then.

Speculate away. But I thought the clue was beyond obvious. The reason I'm not saying more has nothing to do with being needlessly arcane. It just seems to me that if so much trouble was put into not saying it in the original text, there might be some reason to assume there is some element of surprise planned around the character for the future. I like these stories so much (as I assume you do too) that I'd hate to ruin it just to prove that I can. And anyway, maybe I am wrong. I hope not though because I really like the way he thinks...

Hi paulf, here's a possible solution: I expect the thing that minx is thinking of is in this thread (in the spoilers section, so you people worried about spoilers don't click). If that is what you were thinking, then it's already being discussed, so no further harm in you joining the discussion over there. If not, then perhaps you are onto something. In that case, no, I haven't picked up on it. Then again, I haven't re-read SC yet.

Hey Colin... I'm new to the site so I didn't know about the spoiler's section. I'll look for it and maybe we can dissect the possible together there, although this is such a cool potential plot point and it makes so much sense in relation to the larger ongoing storyline (in true off-center Gibsonian logic) that I'm sure you'll catch it too on your second read... It helps to have re-read PR first too... I'll look for 'in this thread'...

We could also point out that I was the first one to come up with this idea in MY THREAD, you know, if we wanted to.

[Why does Colin get all the attention, my dress was just as nice! Jake Ryan should have gone to the dance with me!]

Here is SNAP:

I didn't realize someone had the whole text up.

You should buy the book evil, pirating people.

Piracy is a tax on fame.

Personally I'm tickled pink to see the full text online. Now I can search for phrases that I remember rather than having to leaf through one of my 3 copies of Spook Country (one of which I actually purchased!)

Cool. I didn't get the ARC this time.

What was the competition?

I've heard that Second Life isn't as highly poulated as people claim, is that true?

The container competition. Twilite Minotaur won as well. If you want details, you'll need to use the search function.

Even if I had any interest in Second Life, I wouldn't be able to answer your question, as it's so vague and unverifiable. In any case I only visit Second Life when I can stalk Gibson.
