I couldn't help it.

Cross that performance with DeNiro's in "Jackie Brown" and you've got it. That might capture Brown's limited range...

I've known a lot of guys who literally could be Brown. So as I read, he was an ever-shifting composite of those guys in my mind. Hell, I know so many Browns that I imagined up his CV with little hesitation.

Physically, all of the hackiest (and Brown's definitely a hack) guys from that particular background I imagined for him have the same, quickly recognized set of physical attributes. They're all just slightly rounded. Slightly piggy faces with eyes and mouth that broadcast a typical kind of sexual repression. And they all look tired. A kind of deep-seated weariness that shows through even when they're being manic, which they do from time to time.

Unfortunately, the only Hollywood actor I've seen capture that look is Russell Crowe. Most notably in The Insider:

But also at moments in his personal life:

Crowe could do it, too. He annoys me, but he is a good actor who has been willing to play unflattering roles. He's too much of a face, though. People would want him to be the hero.

The sad thing is that some Hollywood assmonkey probably would try to make a film of SC with Brown as the "hero".

It seemed to me that Brown was younger than any of the above actors.

Also, he has a limited intellect, thuggishly so.

Crowe could do that but I see him as too old, and, as noted, too recognizable.

One of the Space Monkeys from Fight Club would be his speed. Slavish follwoing of dogma and the like.

Particularly holt McCallany:

Also, Johnny Messner might work:

Cooper and Crowe would both make nice, albeit different, Browns.

How about David Morse?

Too old for my image of Brown.
