i wonder. how has this board changed the way you are reading spook country?

when pattern recognition came out, the board was still new, we were still exploring this idea that is the WGB. four years later, things are different, many of us have been here all this time, to some degree or other. we've shared ideas, we've shared an experience. this is something which has affected us, must have affected people who have come along in that time and stayed around.

are you reading spook country differently because of that? is your reaction different because of that?

i'm conscious with almost every sentence of how it is written, how gibson has written it, but also of things like the voices from the audio project, the voices shaping words, stringing out the convolutedness of sentences and meanings. taking more time to read and appreciate.

The big change for me is that formerly when I read a book by WG there would be all kinds of observations floating freely with nobody to discuss them with. And now there is. So reading this book was not a solitary experience. I could feel you over my virtual shoulder.

I am now Borg!

yeah thats kind of what i mean, the changed feeling. we're already seeing the threads spinning off from micro details, which i don't think are anything to do with spoilers. but then i'm still early on in the reading.

There also are so many things that seem familier.

Either he blogged about it, or whe discussed them at some point. (Maybe worth another thread.)

The board also makes me want to read the book faster. (Had hardly time so far, a few hours on Friday and Sunday - half way through by now.)
Which is hard, as I often find myself lowering the book and thinking about the chapter I just read - which is good.

But then, one of the joys is to discussing it with the lads here. Analysing it, figuring out what I missed. What else is hidden there between the lines.

i find that the board slows me down more than speeding me up. sure there is the urge to be finished as soon as possible so that i'm first, so that i don't get spoilers, so that i can discuss it. but i want to appreciate it as well, because i know that we will discuss it.
