Odile: Halfway between oh-DILL and oh-DEEL, with very light pressures on the H, the D, and the Ls. For an audio cue, get a European to say "crododile" in its native tongue.

WG actually pronounced it in Boston (I think I have a clip with that). He was talking about his strange ability to remember certain names. And then he uses them in his stories. He said that when he found out there was the British last name "Inchmale" (pronounced simply as you would pronounce "inch" and "male" in English) he "had to have it".

When I first saw the Curfew staff names Heidi and Inchmale it reminded of Hedwig and the angry inch, a movie about a rock band fronted by a transsexual whose botched operation has left him with a one inch penis... I thought WG was referring to that movie, but I'm probably wrong ; besides, I've probably misunderstood about that inch of virlity left to Hedwig.
