Anyone? Anyone? Ok...The New Book. Lets speculate on that. What do you think guys? A second book in the "Cayce Trilogy", for want of a better focal point, or, squids?

Lots of speculation on those points in the Extract Fetish Forum-In Progress thread.

I really should let this thread die. But I wont just yet. You see I was trying to reread a older Sci fi book and came to the conculsion that sci fi goes quaint quick. So I decided to try and reread Pattern Recognition" and see if the cultural references had become stale yet. However, much to my chargrin, I realised after 30 passages that I had to google quite a few of those cultural references because even on the inital reading I had no idea what the man was talking about. Now I know what a pack of Silk Cut ciggarets look like and have found that some Cutras do indeed look like grenades while other look alot like the reel on my favorite fishing pole.
What does this have to do with what Mr Gibson will do next? Maybe a little, maybe alot. You see, reading the various review exerpts at the begining of the book, with their references to his past works and the "contemporary" nature of PR, I couldnt help but think of a common feature in all of Gibson's works. That is, his attention to detail in style. Archaic, cutting edged or in a unknown future, the man has a eye for style. So naturally his next work will also show this flair.

I was just recalling No Maps. The part about getting WG's family getting a TV before broadcasts were made and then test patterns being braosdcast at scheduled times; reminded me of the blog. Test Patterns.

I had totally forgotten about the Film Footage Fetish title to the discussion board in the book. And actually re-reading the book I now see so many similarities to this board and the book. Also I think that unless you think that marketing is a science, that PR is not scifi. So ,the next book will, in all likelihood, not be scifi either.

when i was little, the ABC used to close for a while midmorning and i'd stay watching the test pattern every day, sure one day it'd make sense. years later, when i first started smoking strong pot it did. don't ask me how though, i just know it clicked.

I did that too. Except I'd wake Mum up and get her to make me something to eat. Mums are good like that.

No pot was involved, and the ABC's test pattern made a hell of a lot more sense than the godbothering shows and Aerobics Oz Style on the other channels.

Some people like watching world weather radar with the sound off more than any other broadcast, and while I don't do that that often, I've found myself completely captivated by it more than once without even knowing how I got there Big Grin

'Mongolian Death Worm' sounds like a Venezuelan heavy metal band, the sort of thing that you'd find on MySpace at 4am, only to discover that all South America knows these songs and you're the first person in Europe to read about it.

So, 'Spook Country'? The ghost on Linda Lee in the matrix, the god of death online, JD Shapley as the new messiah, jetlag induced soul-detachment, and voices in the static telling Cayce her future. Did I think the next book might have a few references to the supernatural? Nah, of course not! Wink

We can't wait to read it WG!
