I think I'll just go to Forbidden Planet and buy it. It'll be quicker than ordering it online as the postman comes after I have left for work.

Forbidden Planet isn't on my way, I am afraid.

I would love to ge the UK version, I simply love the Cover.

I currently have a pre-order for this one. But it will not arrive before the 7th of August.

And when I searched for it again, I found this one. Spook Country (Viking), Penguin Books Ltd (UK) (2. August 2007)

Odd, but looks like they ship the UK version before the US one?

Ultimatly I could order the US version from .com and UK from .co.uk and see what comes first. Seems to be a bit of an overkill though.

I have this on my Amazon.co.uk order...

Dispatch estimate: 31 Jul 2007
Delivery estimate: 2 Aug 2007 - 6 Aug 2007
Price
1 of: Spook Country [Hardcover]
By: William Gibson (Author)
£11.85

Sold by: Amazon.co.uk

So better for those of us outside the UK, and hopefully I will have it before many of those in the US as well.

not a big fan of either cover, which is funny cause i preferred the UK edition of pattern recognition. i guess the UK spook has a slight edge over the US. i am tempted to order it from amazon. but most likely i'll do what kradlum's doing and just go into a shop and buy it, though from memory PR took a bit of time to filter through to the shops.

Give Mark & Cindy a shout, over at Ziesing Books

I'm sure they'll appreciate the international business Smile. Anyhow, their a two-person shop, the books come all pretty-wrapped in brown paper (not bubble-and-shrink wrapped to a board) and they're just nice folks.

Great place to hunt/ask for 1st editions, proofs, whathaveyou.

Thankfully, there's a 2 week lag between when they expect to get it and when 'the man' shows up in Cambridge, so that's where I'm getting mine.

That's my plug, and I'm stickin' to it.

Will order from amazon.fr, so I'll surely go with the US cover version, cuz it's the one displayed at the moment, but I surely would have prefered the UK edition ... (the one with the dark photo right?) ... but I don't think I'll have the choice.

Hasa,
Maybe the shops in Berlin have it earlier?
I cancelled my order when I realized the Oslo ones would.

If you want the UK cover, order it from The Book Depository - free immediate worldwide shipping!!!

I'm thinking of ordering the US cover from Amazon.fr! but will also see which editions are available in Denmark and for what price.

damn! too late Frown
I ordered it directly after my post above... from a marketplace store cause I found it cheaper.. and I think it will be shipped faster than amazon.fr though, but I'm not sure, I'll see. And I saw the UK edition too on amazon.fr after ordering, but 10€ more than the US edition.
But thank you anyway for the tip.

Finally, after seeing pictures of the book in another thread, I don't find the cover that bad, it seems quite pretty. So it's okay Smile

One of the local bookshops has had the large format international paperback, a UK edition, for about a week but I've been waiting for the US hardcover that now finally has arrived!

That's actually kinda funny, we never get the UK hardcover here, it's always those oversized paperbacks that seem to be exported from the UK.

That's funny. I was recently thinking that I don't see "trade paperbacks" anymore, but I'd always thought of them as an American thing.

We get them here in Norway too -- are they export only from the UK you mean?
Surely I thought I saw them in London?

Isn't it an in-between hardcover and small paperback station kinda?

The Spook I bought is like that.

The UK wigbers can probably clear this up but I always thought that they were an an export edition at first and were released later in the UK as, indeed, an edition between the hardcover and the paperback. Amazon UK only has the hardcover so I assume it's export only.
