this has probibaly been said before (i havet worked my way though every post) but it seems that Cayce only has problems with brands that in some way seem insincere. She has a huge problem with Tommy Hillfighter because its a copy of a copy of a copy but no prolem with starbucks or macs, this could be because these brands are not so much style over substance, Starbucks does exactly what i says it does, it serves you coffee, lots of differnt kinds of coffee, Apple makes computers according to a specific design ethic, there own design ethic.

it seems like Cayce's phobia is one based on taste rather than anything else, she hates overexposure but can deal with the idea of a cult because it is a more honest thing i.e. the cult of the mac being mainly perpetuated by mac users.
Similarly some brands are pretty low key, everbody has a go at Starbucks but i can never remember them advertisting, there just there and thats it.

Snobbery even, a sort of psychological disorder that's brought about by only the most shallow and spoilt of societies - only somewhere like the trendiest levels of NY or LA society could generate such a malfunction, only such places could give it a name.

self perpetuation would indecate that its a social group rather than just a companies customers making it a more real thing than say coca-cola
the mac is more of a meme then anything else now, if the company kicked the bucket there would be someone, somewhere modding old mac stuff to keep it up with the times, thats not a loyalty that microsoft would ever get

Thing is, you can't really compare Mac and MS llike that - one builds its hardware and software, and one simply makes software.

Which is why I never espouse MS over Mac, 'cept maybe in gaming terms, I tend to compare between Mac and Non-Mac.

Often, those who like mac tend to compare the hardware of Mac with the software of MS.

See www.applefritter.com for users hacking up old Mac hardware. I'm a long time member over there. There are people who cherish old Apple hardware even with the company still posting record quarters. Microsoft DOES do hardware. Mice, keyboards, etc. may be OEM'd but they are examples of MS hardware business. MS sets the design standards for next gen PCs and what it will design Winders to run on. MS has a very very large hold on the hardware industry. If you can't see that, then you're playing the "selective brand allergy" game too.
