muji.co.uk
coolhuntered website... love the minimalism of the whole concept (no logo)the shop is like that too...
Muji originates in Japan and translates as “No Brand Quality Goods”. It was established in Japan in 1980 and the company’s basic principle is to develop new, simple products at reasonable prices by making the best use of materials while considering environmental issues.

At the end of February 2005 Muji had 285 stores in Japan, 144 of these being licensed stores. Its turnover in 2004 was 117,663 million Yen and it had over 3400 employees. In the early 1990’s Muji opened its first store in London and since then has expanded rapidly in the UK and throughout Western Europe.

And since the day when Fashionpolice took my wife to a Muji store, she has a Muji fetish.
When buying generic household items, she'd rather get a muji verison rather than an actual no-name brand.

I can understand that.
And I think it makes the whole apartment look more original.
But that'll only work as look as the mainstream doesn't have any interest in Muji.

Now it would be good for richiebee to post out of this thread, just to confirm he/she is not just a viral marketeer targeting a likely demographics.

Muji is quite popular among WGBers, although there was only one main thread devoted to them.

So, real or fake (or both, as Viral Marketeers could do worse than being WG fans)?

Or maybe WG fans have been spotted as a likely target for this specific brand.
And he's just the first of a horde of spammers.

richiebee, you'd better react...

I had entirely forgotten about that.
Thanks, FP!

Why have we switched back to Colgate this last year?

Ah, yes... because Bill Breath [(c) Muji] only comes in very small servings.

Two other (at least) images of Buk's window have appeared here, but the second one is now down...:

By the way, you should visit Gil's F:F:F: site as soon as possible.

Although I do rather like some of Muji's stuff, I always found that they were rather expensive, actually, at least in Japan.

Hi All;

I am currently in Florence, on our way down to the house; which interestingly was furnished with antiques and a ton of stuff from Muji on Tottenham Court Road, London.

Back in London, I use their cloth folding boxes in multiple sizes for all my storage needs.

In other words, we love the store.

We were in the big Muji in Ginza last week and the cafe was cheap, plus everything is about 40% cheaper than the same stuff in London. I ended up buying the biggest of their plastic container drawer thingys to load up my swag; cheaper and lighter than buying a suitcase and easy to push around on the add-on wheels.

...though since London IS so ridiculously expensive, Tokyo doesn't seem much of a change in most areas. Some things [transport, food] are actually much cheaper.

However, I overheard some North Americans in Tower - they were reeling.

I am going all the way to New York City to buy a Muji business card case.

I have made four-day trips for stupider reasons, but not too often.

Muji is incredibly popular and trendy here in Paris - there are half a dozen shops, including one in the achingly trendy Marais. The French love Japanese things in general - there's any number of designer shops, arts and crafts shops and manga stores, and so many Japanese restaurants there's now a special guide to them. My impression from buying Muji stuff in three or four countries, including Japan, is that whilst it is not always very cheap it is always well-designed and well-made, which to the French is much more important.
