I'm not religious, and this topic is not about religion -- beside that, I found that the searchin' for the makers of the footage is really similar to the searchin' of a god... the neverending huntin' for the makers of our dreams, for the distant figures that sometimes are fillin' our minds... just like almost monochrome stills from a fragmented footage. The difference is that Cayce finds the makers. And the people surrounding the makers can give her some informations about her lost/dead father too, just like a superior being.

Maybe Gibson was not meaning that, but this is what i see into Pattern Recognition, also.

Or it could simply be about the human ability to speculate and create intricate theories eg. garage Kubrick, from virtually no facts. Of course, the reality is always so much less interesting that people will cling to their wild fantasies. You're right is is about searching for god.
