Does anyone know if the "math grenades" Hobbs wants really exist? If so, just how advanced are they? It would be fun to know, being a mathematical geek and all....

You are speaking of the Curta calculator, aren't you?

If so, yes they exist : Wikipedia.org on Curta.

They have been discussed many times on this board, and you should be able to find out more by using the Search feature with the string 'curta'.

That is excellent, I have done very little work today thanks to that. In fact I have infected another of my department with them so he, also has done very little work.
