AT LAST!

The list of references to the footage that I promised.

Go to F:F:F, page down to What do we know of the "Real" Footage? , and select.

It was easy / economical / quicker / more memorable to put it there for the time being.

I researched the Claymore device, but couldn't see any specific information about the arming mechanism. There is a gamma-shaped sort of plug which goes in place of the detonator when it's disarmed, but that would not normally be anywhere near the device when it was detonated. My reading is that there's a place where an electric detonator goes, and it's up to the user how the detonator is fired - by button press / by tripwire / by radio signal etc. Some of these secondary firing devices might be involved in the explosion.

I noticed that a lot of commentators / reviewers picked up that the T-shaped map corresponded to the blast pattern of the claymore. Where did that come from?

Oh, and speaking of the area of damage, you wouldn't want to be too close behind a Claymore when it went off, as the recoil is likely to be spectacular.

Gil:

Nice image!

I keep switching back and forth on my thinking onthe project. Are we trying to recreate the footage in the book or are we borrowing that idea to do our own story (stories?) in an internet distributed set of footage fragments? I keep getting drawn into the idea of doing mock-ups of the footage from the book, just because the periodlessness and the anonymity and mystery are appealing, although I feel a bit like that is a high standard to meet- could I(we) ever do something that compelling? But it seems like a fun thing to try as a fan of the piece. Thanks for the list of references to the footage. I have just reread PR and I believe you got them all very well.

This kiss image would need to be reworked to be periodless in photoshop or something. Worth a try? have some candidates of my own finding too.

On the Claymore "T" piece issue this is what I found a long time ago. I think the links are broken now, bt there emphatically wasn't any T piece and I believe WG admitted it when he remarked int he proofreading the hardcover that he couldn't fix some of the more factual "errors" in the book. I wouldn't want him to anyway- the T metaphor is too powerful and it is nitpicking to get hung up on the shape I think.

quote:
so i am rereading PR in the ARC version (looking for differences-different thread for that comparison after i am done) and i go looking for the claymore M18A1 manual arming shape to get a better visual as i think about the connections etc and here's the best picture i can find on the net for the source of the "T" lodged in Nora's skull:

claymore M18A1 manual

look at the firing mechanism in figure 13. A bit different than I imagined and maybe have to imagine something inside the plunger. the weird thing is that this would be behind the actual mine. so how does it get blown into Nora's skull? the detonator is not t shaped see

I have to admit that a New footage is much more appealing, but we ought to nod to the originals. It's not too arduous - we only have half a dozen requirements - Kiss, beach pan, rooftop etc.

The mood we used could be quite different.

ok- from your notes are some stills or single frames? rooftop sounded like a single frame as did the cheekbones before kiss. beach pan and girl in formal park sounded like footage or video.

No. I got the impression they were all movie footage, albeit rather still sometimes.

I'm beginning to think there's just thee and me interested in this idea.

HOWEVER

I am about to start a new domain server for my website, and I'll organise a subdomain for F:F:F, so we at least have our own home. It's not at the top of my priority list right now, so it may be a week or two yet.

I'm interested too, I just don't know if I have the time at the moment to add anything in the manner of content to the project. I'm writing a thesis about Gibson, as well as running my own website, and that's taking up most of my time. In a year, if you're still going, I might finally be in a position to add something, but until then I'm just a curious watcher.

I am willing to keep going on this with just the two of us, altho Mata, you are welcome to comment anytime of course, or any others for that matter. The number of views shows that there are more lurking out there anyway. I find it an interesting project, especially the real footage. I hope others can bring their skills and interest to it- perhaps after we get it started.

Anyway- here is the "kiss" modified to remove some era clues (and that scary lady-sheesh!):

I'm now setting up my new Hosting site, of which our enterprise will be a sub-domain (though with its own domain name).

Suggestions, please, for a domain name?

Yes he is too clean, but the boots in the mud and the all black, etc definitely called hobbes to mind- its the mud really-tracking through to his little crappy trailer

Free associating on domain names:

hubertusbigend, duckintheface, renderfarm,
parkaguys, parkafootage, bolshoikamenniimost or bigstonebridge, footagehedz, magdaandvoytek

these are all kinda referential, but not sure where else to go with it- your ideas?

Wow, that's Hobbs!

theattachment.com is available, named after chapter 3 where Cayce sees the kiss for the first time. I thought that it might be rather fitting.

That link doesn't work, it just brings up a rather sinister message saying 'your information has been stored' repeatedly.

Try logging out of the forum there then copying the thread URL.

actually, when i resisted the impulse to close the browser when that message came up, it goes to an animation that seems to imply that the data storage is as we say in the states "where the sun don't shine" as in "shove it __ __ __".

i initially took that to be some kind of insult, but seems i misread the situation.

i actually like your suggestion of the theattachment.com mata

Well I've got the bones of the new site in place with a forum for Real Footage.

It's at http://www.amazonhq.co.uk/phootage/.

I'll start transplanting relevant stuff, but join in and debug the board for the time being.
