That looks identical to the B-15D I got from here. anyone know how to spot the difference between a B15D and an MA1? I expect LN may have the attention to detail to differentiate them (without looking at the tag). This page is all B-15B's and C's. Since I don't read Japanese (Colin? Don't know if you can help here) I can only look at the pictures on this site- B-15D site. My tag is different to the one photographed- Top tag:

The B15D was the precursor to the MA1 and the differences are barely discernable if at all. Congratulations by the way a free Buzz Rickson is certainly cool

While I appreciate its place in the book, I really can't get at all excited about a Buzz Rickson (or any other flying jacket) in real life.
It's a jacket, guys. You might just as well get enthused about the iconic aspect of particular models of lab coat (come to think of it, somewhere in the world someone probably is...). ----------------------------- "It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself." --GK Chesterton, "Heretics" |

Lab Coat for Collectors

Oh dear: Tha cultural iconography of the MA1 is somewhat more complex than the lab coat. Apart from is military origins (more on that later) over time it has been invested with succeeding layers of meaning including (but not limited to) the Mod movement in sixties London (along incidently with the Fishtail Parka), a gay icon and most recently the Skinheads. Each of these layers resonate making the MA1 a complex object. Add to this Buzz Ricksons a perfect example of Japanese otaku obsesiveness and the thing positively sings with cultural meaning. It is also interesting to note that it's origins with the USAF might have a special meaning to the Japanese (Hiroshoma, Nagasaki!). I really feel sorry for people that look at a great cathedral and see a pile of stones or look at the Mona Lisa and say "but the horizon's not straight" Still there is none so blind who will not see. Doctor Frankenstein wore a labcoat. (although I can't find a proof...)
Nothing can beat that. Hmm... maybe a Viking horned helmet. Now that's a collector item! I pity the fools who'd fail to see the greatness in it. _____________________________ Albert's path is a strange and difficult one. |

It seems extremely unlikely that Dr. Frankenstein would have wore a lab coat since gentlemen scientists of that period did not do so and I don't recall any representation of him doing so. Perhaps you can guide me to one? A Viking horned helmet would indeed be a collectors item since I spent 11 rears in the British Museum as a photographer and I never saw one. I suspect they are a myth Speak softly and carry a big Sig |

That's what the British Museum wants you to think. But I know better. *pats his funnel and grins* _____________________________ Albert's path is a strange and difficult one. |

Ah you're a Viking then... this would explain your cultural simplicity!

Don't worry, I'd say it to your face. It is *just* a spelling mistake after all. And "there" does not equal "their". Oh, right, and this is a nice case of the pot calling the kettle black. I'm also not shy on this board--I don't think I'd use my real name otherwise. »» "Forget infinity.
