Those cheeks ... really get to me.

I've never liked Bibendum, even as a little kid he used to give me the total creeps.

But I was sitting at a restaurant today next to a tyre shop, and there he was, large as life. And he's over 100 years old. So is he not one of the most successful logos ever?

So if Cayce had taken one look 100 years ago and said "NO!" -- would she have been wrong? Can you argue with success?

Or is it all a softening-up, and the Bibendi are coming to get us?

I will not sleep easy tonight.

They will probably start with Europe and North America, so you may have a small escape window down there in SA.

That is funny because sometimes a good idea can turn out to be really bad...

Just look at the logo:

And tell me if it don't call back the twin towers with the boeings just about to crash them ???

We have also the "Ford Pinto" wich translation to Portuguese would be "Ford Dick" and several other cases like that.

Long lived products/trademarks/etc tend to have image problems. An exceptional exception is the Coca Cola logo !!!

Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ???

-- now that's what we call "malicia". Hi, amigo.

Very funny thing, I sent someone an e-mail on 10 September 2001, about a capoeira book called "Fundamentals of Malice" (in translation). That was the subject of my e-mail. The next day we were hearing about "box cutters" -- a very capoeira type of weapon.

But you're right. That logo is a little close.

I think it's an image of the *original* Bibendum we need to see, that would have scared her initially. If I remember rightly, he's not as aesthetically approachable as the modern day Michelin Man.

I really dig the "mummy" Bibendum. But I am a perfectly functional member of society. Not a bag of issues like Cayce...

Names. Numbers. Held as though they might be a map, a map back out of the underground.

Just because Cayce had a problem with a specific brand, it didn't mean that it was unsuccessful.. think about Tomy Hilfiger in the book - she was allergic to it, but it was worked well for the company.

She knew what was going to work well as a logo, and was allergic to brands but I didn't take that to mean that the two were mutually exclusive.

I certainly wouldn't approval that. How about "accompany"? Smile

I like how the old Bibendum has flesh hands.

That toasting ad is a hoot - Bibendum can hold his liquor (i.e. nails and pointy stones etc) long after other tyre-men are thoroughly crapulent!
