There is a rumor that the Pattern Recognition movie will be produced.
Well, why don't we try to make OUR cast before ant thing like matrix appears?

My thoughs:

Hubertus is easy: Tom Cruise.

Ngemi looks like a caricature of Morpheus.

Cayce should sometimes looks funny, comic, li the moment at the first chapter that she looks herself at the mirror.

Winona Ryder has the look for Cayce....but maybe Natalie Portman can act the role better. If they can produce John Irving books into movies; why not Gibson?

Keanu Reeves as Cayce has been the most brilliant casting suggestion so far!

Michael Clarke Duncan as Ngemi? (would be fun)

Jeremy Irons as Hubertus? (Older than envisioned but can act ...)

Although overdone, this is a good five minutes fun.

I cannot help but think that Christian Bale could play a believable Tom Cruise, therefore, Bigend as well.

I would have Edward Norton play Parkaboy, just for the pleasure of seeing him in one more film. Robert Redford as Win, which lets me include Sidney Poitier as Ngemi.

Boone Chu would look great as Tony Leung, but he may be hard to get.

The girls are a bit harder. But although she is British, I would like Kate Beckinsale as Cayce.

I would make Cayce and Dorotea almost the same age, and cast Dorotea as German. Which gives me an excuse to put Franka Potente in an unusual role (and twist the classic light vs. dark idea).

Other characters would be more interchangeable, or even (shudder, but necessary in a normal sized movie) erasable.

Done. Next?

Well, I've always thought that Virtual Light would be the easiest of WG's books to adapt to film.

I'll call Clark Johnson for Lucius Warbaby... just because I'd like to see him work again. And naturally, he could pull it off.

And Joaquin could pull off a young Tommy Lee Jones for Rydell:

Christina Ricci might do for Chevette. Unconventionally hot, but she'd have to put on some muscle.

and keira knightley wouldn't have to do much work to manage chevette. and we know she has a good head shape for the shave.

Your pic of Josh is not coming through for me, but all the pics I can find of him online make him look interminably young. Joaquin's too pretty, but he can at least make himself look a bit weathered and plain when he tries. Josh is a bit too pretty and young for the Rydell in my mind. But that's just the Rydell in my mind. Either of them could work well enough, I suppose.

We all know Keanu would get the part, anyway. Whoa.

And Keira K. is just way too delicate and model-like to get the right vibe for Chevette, I think... but I have too solid an image of her stuck in my head, as she reminds me very very much of an old girlfriend. Too difficult to replace that template in my mind with something as different as a Keira Knightley.

Funny how we project so much onto these characters. A good sign of good writing, methinks.

Joaquim has one basic problem as a movie actor. He mumbles. I can never make out what he is saying. For me, that disqualifies him from ever appearing on screen again.
