Occidental or kendo? I used to practice kendo (currently I'm looking forward to reopen my schedule to do that, for I've to pay about US$1K/month at my club but have little chance to enjoy the benefits...). About the music: I've already some (2 directly connected to Oxum and several other "pontos") MP3 files (CC) that I intend to link to this forum tonight (provided I'm able to get home at any civilized time). I am consulting in network/data security in a place that the managers are used to visit pornography sites and things like that... So the time I get free to go home is highly stochastic). With the Cuban teacher, epee, Western fencing. He was a member of the Cuban olympic team before defecting, getting married, gaining some 25 kg... I also practice historical Spanish style and some free style sabre and rapier and dagger. Not as often as I should.
As I said in other thread, he was initiated in the Guerreros at the same time he got his Catholic confirmation, and both mattered practically the same compared to his true love, steel (in the Conan way...). Names. Numbers. Held as though they might be a map, a map back out of the underground. |

I just uploaded the salutation to the Orixás in: Ponto de Saudação aos Orixás
I am finding a more reliable server to put the content. Meanwhile I'll be creating a shoutcast for all the other "pontos"... ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

Ok. Now I added the "Saudação a Exú" where Exu = Elegbara = Elleguá...
Saudação a Exú And also the "Saudação a Oxum" where Oxum = Ochun = Oshun... Saudação a Oxum As I told before, I am finding a more stable place to put the content (HD is crashing...) ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

Oxóssi (Oshosi)
Known as great hunter or "odé", Oxóssi is the provider orishá. His tools are the "ofá" (bow and arrow) and the erukerè (device to keep flies away) made from horse tail hair. His day is Thursday and his dominion are the forests. His color is light blue (Candomblé) or green (Umbanda). He is sincretized as St. Sebastian or St. Jorge (Bahia). His foods can be found at: Comidas de Oxossi and you'll see that he enjoys maize, pumpkin and shrimps. Oxóssi salute word is "Okê Arô". His qualities (modalities) are, among several others: Otin, Inlé adn Ibualama. Ibualama or Inlé is a quality of Oxóssi, husband of Oxum. As the other Oxossis he is hunter, king of Ketu, uses the "ofá" (bow and arrow) and eats hunting meat. Otin, "a blue Oxóssi" uses a side purse and a spear. To end this, I'll put the link to an interesting interview (unfortunately in Portuguese, but if you're able to read Spanish you'll be able to read this...). Indicates the role of the woman in Candomblé. Link to the interview This message has been edited. Last edited by: cb4(r2)3t0, ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

Oshosi (Rule of Osha Ifá)
Oshosi is one of the Orisha Oddé, commonly called Los Guerreros. One of the first Orishas that are seated in. The hunter. He is linked with jail, justice and the pursued. The thought that can move anywhere or any time and grab anything. He handles weapons, starting from bow and arrow. The name comes from the Yoruba Osóssí (Osó: witch; Sísé; work; Sí: for; literally "who works through witchcraft"). He was king of Ketu (a Yoruba city state). He is the husband of Ochun. His number is 3 and its multiples. His color is blue and his collars are made of alternating blue and coral, or in other cases seven blue and seven yellow beads. His sincretic saint is St. Norbert (6th of June). He talks through the second diloggún, Ellioko (which you mentioned was Ejìoko in the buzios, close enough). His power objects are bow and arrow, and a jail. His dress is lilac or light purple, with a tigerskin hat and purse. The offerings are similar, with an emphasis on hunted birds. When he descends on someone, that person will dance simulating the drawing and firing of a bow. Your links are giving me trouble to connect, so I cannot comment on them. There is a Cuban hip hop band, Orishas, that originally used some santería themes but now are much more international. Names. Numbers. Held as though they might be a map, a map back out of the underground. |

I have tried to connect too, and cannot. I would like to hear these tracks.
You could maybe try hosting them on Sendspace or Rapidshare? |

The server I was using crashed completely this weekend... I am recovering the files (I have backups) and I'll put them somewhere else (MySpace or something like that).
As soon as I fix up everything I'll post it back in this list. I'm sorry for the inconvenience... and very upset with the maintenance people... Besides, I have a rar file with lots (really) of "pontos" and I have an AVI file that I cannot put in the net (copyrighted). It is a documentary, but I cannot find it in the rentals nor in video-clubs... If I can't do otherwise I'll try to contact the director and try to get auth to put it somewhere where people can watch it. ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

There's always something to pull your hair out about when it comes to technology. Why does everything always take about three times as long as you think it's going to? Thanks for trying, anyway.
Sendspace/Rapidshare et al are generally the File Disseminators of choice for filesharing by MP3 sharers and DVD rippers because you can upload biggish files anonymously, post the URL somewhere and others can download them freely. Ahem. Please, not MySpace! |

Ok. I could restore some files.
For the moments I have links for 14 "pontos" for the orishas (orixás): Ponto de Ewá Ponto de Exú (Elegbara/Elleguá) Ponto de Iansã Ponto de Iemanjá Ponto de Naná (Nanã) Ponto de Obá Ponto de Obaluaiê Ponto de Ogum Ponto de Ossanhê Ponto de Oxalá Ponto de Oxossi Ponto de Oxumaré Ponto de Oxum (Oshun) Ponto de Xango (Shango) Hope this time it works all right ... I am working in some videos. Will post ASAP ---------- Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ??? |

In the following link you can see an excerpt of a ceremony for Ogum (the "orisha/orixá of war"). As presented here it is quite orthodox.

Now, some videos.
The first one is little cheesy ("brega") but also interesting: Initiation in Candomblé The second one is a "hipano" video showing music and representation for Oggún: Oggún Hispano The third one is an interesting documentary about Umbanda and Candomblé in Brazil (made by some latino-american TV I guess...): Da Umbanda ao Candomblé. One interesting thing about this doc is that they chose a line of Umbanda nearer to Kardecism and presented Candomblé as "dark side". This posture was quite common during the first half of XX Century. Anyways it was useful because it helped to create a tolerance environment inside a clearly catholic society (not usually given to tolerance...). Nowadays, it is getting less common to find the "kardecist" lines of Umbanda and most temples are going back to the African origins. I myself have always been more kind to Candomblé in the way it is practiced in Bahia. The place where the public ceremony takes place ("a gira") is called "roncó". It is important to note that in Portuguese áéíóú are read as àèìòù in French... ã and õ are read more or less as if you pronounce "can" pressing your nose with your fingers. ça is read more or less as "ssa" in "passage" The rest is just much similar to Spanish but you have to take care with the false cognates.
