Since the 5k appeared in the story I thought Milgrim would end up with the money, just never expected it to happen like it did.
Kind of fortitious, wasn't it? |

Depends on how fortuitous it is for an addict to lay his hands on another addicts windfall of money when former owner croaked himself and gave up said money so as not to blow it while doing so.

I'd take $5K. How could finding $5K not be fortuitous?
(OK, if it was the mob's $5K and they knew you took it, bla bla bla. But is $5K enough for anyone serious to get in a kerfuffle about? "That's right, I took that $5K, didn't see your name on it, did I..." *kicks lame mobster into submission with motorcycle boots* "Cool, gots me $5,000 AND a workout. Fortuitous.") _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |

If Jimmy Carlyle had found the 5K instead of borrowing it he would have shot it all up and died sooner.
Milgrim might have kicked hi habit being all alone in vancouver without money trying to score Ativan. Now he can coast longer. Then again, his addcition isn't as debilitating as it might be. But I suppose fortuitous just means an unlikely chain of seeming random events seeing fruition, so there is that. |

Hmm, I think of fortuitous as denoting good luck, but I guess that's serendipitous. Bad me.

fortuitous
Main Entry: for·tu·itous Pronunciation: \fȯr-ˈtü-ə-təs, -ˈtyü-, fər-\ Function: adjective Etymology: Latin fortuitus; akin to Latin fort-, fors chance — more at fortune Date: 1653 1: occurring by chance 2 a: fortunate, lucky I clicked on a link for Dictionay.com and they had their devinition in about 2 point font. WTF? |

So did I, and it wasn't 2 points for me. o_O
Did you see their usage note? it's only recently come to imply good luck, and literally means simply chance. Hence my comment re: serendipity. _____________________________________ ::swoon:: |

I just clicked out of the first link with their elitist little font!

Being an avid scrabble player, I prefer m-w.com for looking up words.
and actually onelook.com brings up links for many dictionaries and also other lists. dictionary.com seemed to be the worst one, although they recently improved their site, and it does tend to include a few more words that you don't find elsewhere. ____________________ Creo quia absurdum est. |
