When I was like, ten, I purchased the only copy of OMNI magazine that I ever owned, because it was a sci-fi rag and I was heavily into that sort of thing, being ten. (I'm thirty-five now and still heavily into that sort of thing.) I read through it, and tossed it into a box, because I tend to be a packrat. A few years ago, I was going through a bunch of old boxes when I found that copy of OMNI. On the cover:

William Gibson's "Johnny Mnemonic"

The magazine is now safely stored in a sealed plastic bag with a piece of thick cardboard to keep it stiff.

So my question is, what came first - the publication of "JM" in OMNI or the publication of "JM" in "Burning Chrome?" Not that it matters - I'm just curious.

Pixillated, "Johnny Nemonic" was first published in Omni. The Burning Chrome collection came a couple of later, collecting stories that had been published elsewhere.

Ha... I recall first avoiding reading that story due to the artwork they choose for the story; a not-so-pleasant face AFAIR. And what about the one they put for "Dogfight"? Justa little too much on the old-fashioned side...

She's around here somewhere, I think....

She's currently doing a chat on The Well, in a parallel world with Bruce Sterling. This week, anyway, the cyberpunks have inherited c-space.

Hi y'all. I've been peeking in here when I've got the time.

Eileen says she suggested you check out my chat with Jack Womack over at the well. I think Jack is wearing out so if you have questions I can try to answer them. All you have to do is email the sysops via the link at the bottom of the front page where the chat's announced.

Thanks for articulating that! Wondering why the net felt so much more interesting this week and of course, of course, "Pattern Recognition", "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom", "Tomorrow Now", Gibson's blog and this board.

Now, we just need Misha to finish "Yellowjacket" and we're all set.

The movie did the story Very Little justice, It just about killed cyberpunk films all together.
