While we're back on the subject, would you say Maelcum and company are the closest thing to a positive alternative to the dystopic in the novel? Plenty of criticism has been written claiming the book drapes a pall of alienation over this future/present, without a gap to be seen. However, it seems to me the Rastas seem to be the only ones approaching well-adjusted 21st century life, with community, stability, and ideals despite uncertainties and contradictions and being effortlessly thwarted by the Mute.
I'm not saying ganja is the only hope here (italics on only). Rather Steppin Razor is the thing.
