You all think this is funny but you have NO FUXKING IDEA. I've been sitting on this for over twenty four hours and now I'm going to probably burn a good contact in Hwood but some things must be said...allow me to be a little vague. Someone 'near' the loop on this project dropped a little bombshell on me after dismissing the director rumors, which are always bullshit anyways, typical favor to an agent working another deal for their client yada yada, getting leverage because he's got this offer to do this big budget yada yada next big thing. Later they call in a favor from the agent, etc etc.
THEN I'm told, 'you know this isn't out their yet but..."

I can barely bring myself to write this but Daniel Fucking Harry Fucking Potter Fucking Radcliff is a huge WG fan and HIS fucking 'people' have contacted this project expressing his desire to play Case. Now laugh, hell I sure did... for a couple of seconds. Then I heard the rest. "He REALLY wants to change his image yada yada make a hollywood pic yada.
But the problem is the money people on the project are creaming their jeans at the thought of millions of teenage girls creaming theirs as Radcliff shoots his load into Molly. THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT HOW MUCH THEY CAN MAKE OFF THIS. The fact that its 'him' contacting 'them' is *really* bad and that if he wants it and isn't ridiculous about demands ($$$) etc, then its his, which will fast track the project. Hell, even if he insists on Bruce Sterling playing Molly, they'd probably go for it according to soon to be ex contact.

Anyways aside from using a mongolian horde technique on this cunt's fansites and trying to convince them this will destroy his career (not mention a great book) all we can hope is that his 'people' steer him in a different direction.

Honestly now, this upsets you so much? I don't know if your story is true or not, but who gives a damn? If it gets made, then I hope it's a cool movie to watch. If it's not, then oh well, it's another shitty movie out there. How can it possibly change your relationship with the book after all these years?

daniel radcliffe seems to be an intelligent lad.

i mean it's not like he's a mini-keanu or anything.

and he's had a fair bit of experience after all. how many young actors have had continuous, quality, big budget, adaptation experience? really?

I don't want to get into that rather nebulous argument [the one raised by splittie]. I'm just not entirely convinced Radcliffe couldn't manage it.

Case is quite young, after all. The rest is make-up and acting.

Radcliffe actually got good reviews for his performance in Equus, but the real test should be how he does in the film of Order of the Phoenix, where Harry basically gets to be a shit to everyone. You know, an actual adolescent. Wink

I like the kid, and think he could do well. But that would require everyone else involved in the production to take it as seriously as I imagine Radcliffe could.

I have to say, he actually looks more like Case (in my opinion) than any of the other actors I've seen suggested. He'd have to pick up a sprawl accent somewhere, and he wouldn't be wearing little round glasses, but I'm not sure he's such a bad choice.

Of course, more like WG than WG himself, I'll believe it when the opening credits are rolling in front of me.*

* Yes, I probably wouldn't be able to resist, no matter how shitty the film actually is.

Think of the actors you'd like to play Case. Then remind yourself that just about every one of them started out in callow child or teenager roles. Radcliffe just lucked into a megabucks franchise out the starting gate. Maybe he's got the chops, who knows?

But, yeah, he'd probably make a much better Bobby Newmark if they'd film Count Zero.

Radcliffe isn't way off the mark as it might seem. That Nick Stahl wasn't a bad choice either. If any of them get the part i wouldn't care. I care about style and substance of this "who's sure if it'll be made" film. Turning WG's unique writing character would be a major challenge for anyone. Whatever it turns out to be , it damn sure won't please every WG fan anyway. Now IDORU would be a great film choice.

Never heard of this Radcliffe character, but he does seem to look the part.

i was also thinking, that with the half blood prince and the deathly hallows still to be filmed, radcliffe (i think he's now 17) will probably be perfect case-age (23) by the time he's available. and it would give the rest of the team a good long while to get things sorted out before then.

I was "Do Not Want"-ing that particular Radcliffe & horse image. Anyhow, I don't think he could pull off the requisite loser-ness of Case...

There's a lot of loserness to Harry that Radcliffe could perform in "Order of the Phoenix," but that is just my interpretation.
