Given that's what WG called cyberspace in Neuromancer. Even the Turkish cover graphics would have been acceptable pre-Wachowski - mirror shaded hard-faced dude in front of a wall of coding. Only the timing makes it a cheapjack tie-in. But then all SF cover art is essentially exploitative - sorry, read "All book cover art" - and I guess it'll be Turkish "Matrix" fans that buy the book who are going to feel ripped off (assuming they have no taste in literature).

Is it possible - just possible - that the appearance of Hollywood rip-off is more "apophenia", that the Turkish publishers were unaware of the movie association? Nah, but a nice thought - why think badly of SF publishers if you can get around it?

(A more litigious man than WG might have queried the Wachowskis' use of "the Matrix" given its provenance in Neuromancer, but then, from memory, I believe there's an obscure pre-WG ref to a virtual reality called "the matrix" in "The Deadly Assassin" a Dr Who storyline from 1976. And that's enough [old-hat] anoraky from me.)
