I don't know. Curtis Hanson went from crap like "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" to at least one great movie, "L.A. Confidential." At worst, it'll be style over substance with bad acting, and we had that in Johnny Mnemonic, which boasted a script by Gibson himself and a director he even *liked* in Robert Longo...

Can you picture the poster? "From the director of Torque"? What the hell!!!! Ignorant hicks. Fck it. It's hopeless. Damn. Hollywood is killing the movies. May they go to deepest hell. Soon.
Seems like this happens (somebody starts a project to cement their option), every time a new book-by-Bill is about to come out. Happened with Cunningham on the bill when PR came out, happening again with this no-name when Spook Country is due...

im holding my breath. I see maybe hi - end graphics with POOOR ACTING and POOOOOOOR plot!!!! just enough to fry this wonderful book. If it sucks, ill buy the dvd and burn it in defiance.
Unfortunately, I see this movie becomming a "modern science fantasy" equivalent to the pathetic horror-fantasy movie "Van Helsing." With a $70 million $ budget, it won't have the blockbuster effects to draw opening day audiences, nor the money to pay big-name stars (which I could care less about). So it's left to the director and editor to use unknown/lesser known, but talented actors, and their own skill to craft a viable big screen translation out of a screenplay.
In other words, let's get in touch with the studio, producers, director, and anyone associated with this currently pre-production disaster in the making, and guide them towards Equilibrium rather than something akin to an Ewe Boll production.
With $70 million in the budget, we should inform the powers that be, we need them to focus on retakes (which are expensive as hell.) Also, they should focus on the art of film making. Rather than blowing their budget on high-end sfx that are poorly offset by horrendous live-action takes, because they didn't have the budget to give the actors another day to learn their lines.
There is no excuse for a lack of proof reading. So, if I've made any mistakes; Suck it up.

Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself." --GK Chesterton, "Heretics"

Several times, in fact, and there's the whole unresolved love/hate thing with Linda Lee which actually, you know, manages to become the crux of Case's death wish.
There's a lot of love in Neuromancer, actually.
None of it healthy.
