Dude, you blew through your 70 million budget four times over with this cast. S'a fun game though, for sure. Some really cool choices. Kerry Condon as 3jane? At first blush I thought, "no that's wrong then... WOW THAT'D BE SO COOL TO SEE 3JANE ON-SCREEN!!!"

Norton as Case, Swank as Molly, huh? Okay that's pretty good. Lemme try and top it:

Zooey Deschanel is Molly

If you can't hack that, Camilla Belle (cast against type, but think about it for a minute).

Case. Case, Case, Case... Got him. Case is Christian Bale

Geez, I'm beginning to hope it never gets made, unless it's done by Hayao Miyazaki...

... and that's not even a serious thought...

I don't really think I'd go see a major budget treatment of a text I have been addicted to for over twenty years.

There's no way, IMHO, that it could measure up to what it took my imagination 20 years to construct from material William probably took as long to develop.

Just wont happen.

Actually, I'm totally with you on Christian Bale = Case. That looks perfect.

And Hillary Swank as Molly. She's tough enough on the edges. I hate it when they take uber-femme chicks and give them weapons and go "Look! She's tough!"

Remember kids, the internet loves you. Even though sometimes it touches you in the bad place.

Proof of the 'everyone has their own perfect film/cast...' To me, Bale looks way too cocky, butchy, tough-ass to be the street-wise but still wimpier Case.
As long as they don't cast Will Ferrell...

Case supposed to be 22-25 years old, right?
How old are those guys? Bale is early 30s, Norton late 30s...

Personally, I think we should be working on a so-bad-it's-good version of Neuromancer. We know Hollywood would fuck it up, sure. But could they fuck it up so terribly, terribly badly that it passed through to the other side and became fun to watch?

Gender Bender

Along that line of thought, Keanu Reeves would make a great Cayce Pollard.

did she see the recent film "the reaping", where swank was kind of playing a tough character? it was interesting, at least in terms of her performance. the film was a watchable stinker.

So bad that it just might be good:

Charlie Sheen as Case
Molly Ringwald as Linda Lee
Ellen Degeneres as Molly
Marlon Brando (Dr. Moreau vintage, digitally mapped onto a live actor) as the Finn
Mickey Rourke as Wage
Neil Patrick Harris as Lonny Zone
Larry Thomas (aka the Soup Nazi) as Terzibashjian
Sylvester Stallone as Ratz
Harry Dean Stanton as Armitage
Andrew Dice Clay as Riviera
Steven Seagal as Hideo
Shaggy as Maelcum
Anthony Michael Hall as Aerol
Mickey Rooney as Ashpool
Li'l Kim as 3Jane
Michael Caine as Julius Deane (but he has to have a very bad script to work from, to the point where he just gives in and takes the cheeziness over the top as only he or Walken can do)
Pauly Shore as Lupus Yonderboy
Neil Patrick Harris as Angelo (with no acknowledgment of the fact that he's playing Zone as well; in fact, he should wear the same costume and makeup for both roles)
Burt Reynolds as the voice of McCoy Pauley
Harvey Fierstein as the voice of Wintermute
John Goodman, Yaphet Kotto, and Paris Hilton as Roland, Pierre and Michele from Turing
Neil Patrick Harris as Johnny in Molly flashback (again, in the same costume and makeup, but with the flashback in black and white)

Case picks up the phone.

[voice of Harvey Fierstein] "Wintermute, Case. It's time we talk, honey. Let's do coffee."

Sheen gives his best zany, Hot Shots Part Deux look at the phone and hangs up.
