hello everyone. this is my first post

here are some tracks I think are quite well suited to the feel of the book, in YT clip form, of course, for your browsing / sampling pleasure

venetian snares - suffocate

venetian snares - colorless
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZxEix4KQ0M

aphex twin - matchsticks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWSCoLFZqjM

venetian snares - my half
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld0iHQwrzj0

yes, a bit vsnares-heavy. what music makes you think of the NM/sprawl book/world? ;-P

Aphex Twin definitely.

I think mostly the ambient stuff is only suitable for Cyberspace though, the real world would have a more cinematic quality and thats really what I am trying to achieve with the game.

I've also tried associating songs with characters but failed to find appropriate songs to represent the character's moods - and still maintain the cyberpunk qualities.

I honestly do think that the real world should be more epic because Cyberspace does feel very empty - but also has a busy element to it, which I think can only be defined in Ambiance music.

This part of the project is hard for me personally because I really do need to define a style before handing it onto my composer.

I always figured electronica, techno and ambient would be great, but I am beginning to feel they need to go orchestral or lateral at least to preserve the film from being terribly dated.

Kabuki here, Russian folk tune there, whatever generic metropunk is currently cool (most folks can't tell the difference), "some righteous dub", et cetera, anything but overtly cyberpunk derivative music, please.

Raw rock'n'roll. Dub (and built up from sound libraries and cut-and-spliced by a basic music AI--cross Autechre with Pole with Mad Professor?) in Zion, whatever is current in the Middle East when they're in Turkey, bizarre pop in the Chat.

Errr.. okay maybe you were thinking of something that didn't define Cyberpunk as a Genre Big Grin lol.

Sounds exactly right. At one point I was going to include some 1980s ambiance in the background but now instead I've decided to go entirely Epic and cinematic since it was starting to sound a bit old. (too Vangelisish) Now It'll sound very angry and digitized.

I'll try to get my composer to whip something up actually so you guys can critique it a bit.

I always imagined Cyberspace was this Quiet Ambient place - so I've been listening to a lot of ambiance music. I should get some Aphex in on it too since it sounds similar.

you sure about that? I always imagined something a bit more industrial, very metalish - sound that makes it hard to talk in - or would you rather replicate the Cantina scene from Star Wars :P lol. But honestly the Chat has to feel like what the sort of people who hang out there would listen to, and it'd be very rough. The first thing that comes to mind is what would attact Drug Addicts from the Sprawl, An African with war tattoos, A hooker and some stupid Aussie dick head to a club like Chatsubo? it'd be a very rough place indeed.. else they wouldn't be there in the first place. Would you rather they play some David Bowie instead... I don't think so. Ok yeah it worked for Omikron I'll admit but it won't for Neuromancer :P.
