William Gibson's novels and stories have had a profound influence on the rise and development of the internet and the world wide web.

Some fans who set up or own parts of that infrastructure have paid homage by naming some of their computers or internet domain names, after popular characters from William Gibson's novels and stories.

Not all of these internet connected computers are active websites anymore, or they are names of mail servers etc.

Here are a few for your amusement and wonder, please feel free to add to the list:

Neuromancer seems popular:

neuromancer.dune.net
www.neuromancer.moddb.com
neuromancer.bestarnow.com
neuromancer-ai.newgrounds.com
neuromancer.newsvine.com
neuromancer.net

neuromancer.com
dns.ideanode.com.neuromancer.com
mail2.neuromancer.com
maiil.neuromancer.com
localhost.neuromancer.com
ftp.neuromancer.com.
www.neuromancer.com.
hideo.neuromancer.com
(there is also an associated molly.ideanode.com)

neuromancer.org
neuromancer.net
neuromancer.co.uk
neuromancer.info
neuromancer.biz
neuromancer.eu

The Government of the State of Paraná in Brazil also seems to have at least one William Gibson fan:

neuromancer.missal.pr.gov.br.

Wintermute (not all of which are necessarily inspired by Neuromancer):

wintermute.toyota.com
wintermute.jesus.cam.ac.uk
www.wintermute.it
www.wintermute.nl
wintermute.com.au
www.wintermute.org
wintermute.de
wintermute.linguistics.ucla.edu
wintermute.vox.com
wintermute.bravehost.com
wintermute.fotopic.net

Maas Biolabs' rivals Hosaka also seem to in cyberspace (although these may be just be conicendal)

tessier-ashpool.stumbleupon.com

the Virek Institute is a private sector geological research organisation)

virek.eu

Artificial Intelligences ?

turinginstitute.com
turingregistry.com

(aaargh !! - even turning off "Graemlin Conversions" does not seem to stop the forum software from automatically making URL links where none were intended)

When I get around to naming a computer in Gibsonian reference, it will have to be Boomzilla.

Once my Neuromancer game gets a bit more established I'll make a more official URL.

Thanks for the linkage though Wink
