We've been able to provide video capture of a complete emulation of the AGRIPPA poem running in its custom-built encryption software, recovered using a forensic copy process from one of the original diskettes loaned by a collector:
http://agrippa.english.ucsb.ed...running-in-emulation For more detail: http://agrippa.english.ucsb.ed...-sources-for-agrippa If you don't know about AGRIPPA: http://agrippa.english.ucsb.edu/ Enjoy! |

That's so wrong it's right! The future of sci-fi is going backwards.

Seems to be Slashdotted at the moment. I'll have to try again later.
A version that continually deletes/encrypts itself in emulation? Cyberspace Groundhog Day. This message has been edited. Last edited by: BK/DK, ++++++++++++++++++++ Reality is, of course, an illusion. But it's a *real* illusion. |

The full text of Agrippa has been here since the site started:
http://www.WilliamGibsonBooks.com/source/agrippa.asp Though the above is a worthy effort... »» "Forget infinity. I've got books waiting for me to read them." — colin »»"Speculative novels of last Tuesday." — William Gibson |

The site got slashdotted. Boing Boing and Bruce Sterling on Wired also picked it up, among others. The server is back now, at least for the moment. ;-)
Yes, the text of the poem is available on WG's site, as it is in innumerable other locales around the internet. We were very clear on that in the announcement. But reading a novel in a Penguin paperback is not the same as handling the manuscript or the first edition--same idea here. The text of the poem also takes on some new dimensions in its original interface: an illustrated title page and sound effects, for instance. |

I love that you made the disk image itself available. Nicely done. The Slashdotting is over, so I've had a chance to check the site out.

So how come it seems to be OK to republish AGRIPPA, which was supposed to never be read again, but apparently is not OK to republish Skinner's Room or Thirteen Views of a Cardboard City, which remain unavailable to me just by the vagaries of chance and publishing?
(I'm not scolding you, M. Kirshenbaum, I'm just whining about not getting to read the other stories.) |

I want to read the Hippy Hat and Skinner's Room and all the others I do not have.
I think I have 13 Views still on file though. |
