I think having a sufficiently excellent cast and high enough budget to do justice to the novel would be fundamentally at odds with doing justice to the novel. What I mean is: with that kind of money on the line, the pressure to force it into the conventional outlines of Good versus Evil and scrape off all the noirish ambiguities and unresolved tensions would be enormous. Stranger things have happened, but the odds are strongly against. We all know what they did to Johnny Mnemonic. In my quixotic moments I imagine some independent film maker with a lot of imagination and not a huge amount of money doing something really true to the spirt of it. But that's not in the cards I'm afraid.

Ultimately it comes down to the style of the concept artist as to how the film will look. If its Sid Mead we might end up with another Jhonny Mnemonic or Blade Runner.

If not then who knows visually it could pull off something amazing.. we won't know until we see a trailer.

In terms of story, really all they have to do is follow exactly what the BBC Radio version did, managed to get the entire book into a 2 hour slot.. Impressive right?
