Neuromancer

True to Life Hayden Christensen is in talks to star in an adaptation of William Gibson's classic cyberpunk novel, directed by the guy who made Britney Spears' "Toxic" music video. The book is about a former star who loses his mind, becomes addicted to drugs and lives a hard life that's on the verge of killing him. Wait ... is this sci-fi or Britney's biography?

This is going from bad to worse...

Some journalists are incapable of doing research well (edit: or, apparently, reading). This is nothing new.

I also just remembered that I'm of a generation who, when presented with the phrase "Darth Vader's actor", thinks of David Prowse rather than Hayden Christensen.

Prowse as Julian in "A Clockwork Orange," carrying Alex.

Hayden didn't really play Darth Vader, except for a few bits at the end. he was Annakin (Yipee!) Skywalker the whole time.

Though I wil admit, in 1999, at the first one, I leaned over to my friend and asked: "Did Darth Vader just say 'yipee'?"

(O_o)` Lord Vader and Alex the Droog, together? Now that's some weird film trivia.

I have to say, with no disrespect meant to Mr. Prowse, that Vader for me was, first, Constantino Romero, who did the dubbing to Spanish, and some years later, James Earl Jones, when I got to listen to the original. The armour was flat, but the voice made the character so powerful.

I love that the character is actually played by two actors.
Body-language and a voice.

Like a puppet.

One could argue that old Darth there was indeed but a puppet of the Emperor and the dark side of the Force.

Oh, and as for the actual thread... i think i've given up on the whole project the moment i tried to actually watch Torque and gave up about 5 minutes in. Since then i knew they'd never be able to even come close to the brilliance of the book, nor do i care if they do try and fuck up.

I still quite like the BBC radio adaptation though, that stuff was good.

Pray for him to not sell the options again? Seems unlikely.

Watch any of the Star Wars films again and try not to hear Fozzie Bear in Yoda. It'll drive one nutty.

Hahaha Fozzie the bear. Now I'm going to think of that every time I watch ESB.. :P thanks for ruining the movie for me :P. lol

I'd really like to see Joseph Kahn's reaction if and when I get this Neuromancer game up and running. This just makes me want to work harder Big Grin

Joseph Kahn is just a fanboi.. nothing more. He can't possibly comprehend making a cyberpunk film since he has never done it before. His film clips barely reassemble cyberpunk at all. And that Torque film was just a rip-off of another successful film.. so I suspect this will be just another Blade Runner 2 :P. Myself on the other hand, I worked on rebuilding Deus Ex in its purist form and I have a good understanding of the style.

Further more the actor choice is appalling.. w00t now Case can be an Emo. lol (reference to one of his later films post Episode 3)

Mr_Cyberpunk

The game you're developing currently runs in what platform? PS2?

If you're porting to PS3 then you must deal with the new vector processing capabilities. I don't think that Java is the best way to do so... I am not sure that a simple Linux port will work all right either.

I know some people who's working (with IBM) in order to exploit the vector processing capabilities of the new IBM Cell processor (including automatic parallelizing compilers and other programming stuff).

Last year (2006) I had the prospect of working to port the squeak Morphic to the cell architecture and that is one thing I hope I can do this year. To be true I am sorry that Apple decided to go Intel and deprecated the PPC for if they've gone into cell I'd have a nice working platform...

Thanks for the advice but alternatively as I've stated I can always run the game through JAVAapp assuming that again PS3 will allow it either through its browser or again through Linux. Ultimately it depends on what the tests show when I QA the thing.. That won't happen for a good 6 months I reckon since I'm waiting on the new engine. But I am presently working on the PC version and the MacOS Linux ports via Java.
