I'm asking this question as I'm curious to know how far is too far for a Neuromancer adaptation. This is both for my own benefit with Revision and also to generate discussion about this rumoured film. (I noticed a few people talking about it in the previous threads)

It'd really help me figure out what I should do in terms of what player's can do in Revision but it'd also give us all an idea on what kind of film Neuromancer would be.

Please vote based on what you THINK it should be not what you think is feasible.

Question:
What rating would you give Neuromancer

Choices:
G
PG - (in video games this is E)
M
M15+
R18 - (in video games this is AO)
X - (this is considered pornography)

I voted R18 which would mean:

Sexual Content and Sexual Violence (I'm a bit worried about the sexual violence stuff as it could be a bit too much)
Heavy Realistic Violence
Drug Use
Alcohol Consumption
Adult Language (Swearing)

Most likely any sexual acts would feature anyone over the age of 16 (possibly even 18 depending on what people think is alright) Sex scenes would also most likely fade out to black before they happened and would skip it. (which would be the case with both the game or movie)

Tell me if thats a bit too much or not enough. My biggest problem is that my website provider won't allow me to host adult content so yeah I'll have to come up with a plan if people desire that content.

Video games allmost never get the AO rating; it's only games with a pornographic nature that get this. So unless you're planning on a sex mini game (like Fahrenheit for instance, or the hot coffee mod from GTA:SA) you'd probably end up with a M rating, or even an E rating if there isn't that much violence or strong language.

There will be violence trust me on that one. The fact is I've been planning on a freeform gameplay style which lets you play what ever you want to be. So this would mean players could play as Hookers for instance and use excessive amounts of drugs like Case did.

I think its one thing to show it, its another to actually let people do it. Hence why I'm a bit concerned. (don't forget this is not going to be a commercial game so these ratings don't apply. I just want to know what people are expecting from a Neuromancer game/film)

Voilence still falls neatly under the M rating. Case in point: GTA San Adreas fell back to an M rating once it was patched so the hot coffee mod stopped working.

Btw: the ESRB rating is voluntary, allthough they judge every game that is for sale in the US and Canada. If you are worried about ratings and stuff, you can still contact the ESRB to get rated. 't might cost you a bit, though.

I ain't doing that, no chance in hell. I'm going to just make a recommendation on what I think the game classifies under. My only issue is that I might end up as one of those guys you see on CNN with their "morally unethical" games and Jack Thompson on my arse.. That'd suck.. Majorly Suck!

There won't be any sex mini-games. Violence will be pretty much your standard video game stuff, nothing like the Manhunt standards which are way over the top.

I'd like to make an R rated game because this is purely marketed at Adults (even though its not commercial). It is rare to see ESRB ratings on indie games.
