this scholarly paper only hints at it

but this is a great woman.

She has invented a way to make solar cells with a pizza oven and an inkjet printer

Really this could be more important than expensive breakthroughs. It belongs to the real world.

Al Gore endorses domestic terrorism to combat global warming.

Not the smartest thing he's ever done.

Bro, normally I'm on board with you on most issues, but seriously Boog, what the fuck are you talking about?!?!

When did civil disobedience in the US gain the moniker of "domestic terrorism" unless you are a member of the Bush family? And to hear that you of all people aren't on board for fighting the man to take back the streets for the people is frankly odd. You're kidding right? Or did this job offer really make you a man? Wink

What he's doing, is devaluing the movement.
This manner of confrontation, while laudable, is self defeating.
No matter how much one detests the opposition, the ultimate goal is cohesion.
This is the very definition of domestic terrorism.

Exorcise your rights.
Protest.
Demonstrate.
Get involved.
Speak.
Write.
Teach.
Learn.

But do not give them something to point at that devalues the entire effort.

Is this some kind of Freudian slip? Sorry, I couldn't resist! Wink

To a degree I think you're right. But if they do actually shoot some students who chained themselves to the fence, we're going to see actual exciting media coverage.

Anyways, I would certainly recommend anyone taking the civil disobedience path to at least pause to read or reread The Monkey Wrench Gang and Zodiac: An Eco-Thriller before they head out.

You're talking bollocks. Civil disobedience is not domestic terrorism. I think you've been drinking to much of the Government's Kool Aid.

That's the whole point. In order to change someones mind, or behavior, one must communicate with the opposition.

The wrong thing to do is abandon dialog.

What it comes down to, boys, is this:

Do you want change, or are you just looking to fight.

Boogs, by refering to civil disobedience as 'domestic terrorism', you are entering bat country.

That's what Kradlum is saying, I think.
And I agree.

Whatever. You posting twice in 2 minutes doesn't make you look like the hothead?

Maybe you want to explain the gibberish you've been posting? You need to have the conversations on the board rather than just in your head if you want us to understand you.

Perhaps you'd like to point out where anyone here suggests fighting?

Gore's naive statement leads other, less thoughtful children to do Stupid Things in the name of the environment when all they want to do is fight.

Gore's statement about civil disobedience and climate change this week caused some ELF protesters to burn down a lab 7 years ago? Really?

Maybe you'd like to explain to the class what this has to do with civil disobedience and global warming. Just because you're naive and don't know what civil disobedience is, it doesn't mean that the rest of us don't.

All I am saying is that there are more intelligent methods of communication than confrontation, or breaking laws.

Do you disagree?
