Police powerless against "underground" Web sites (Asahi Shimbun)

quote:
They provide forums for felons, offer platforms for partners in crime, and even introduce clients to assassins.

But operator of these "underground Web sites" have for the most part escaped arrest for crimes that they have helped to arrange. The Web sites, which offer to undertake illegal activities, are buried in a legal gray zone where police face difficulties establishing the culpability of the operators.

One high-profile example involved a Web site called Kakekomidera (temple where abused women seek refuge) that carried words like "murder," "revenge" and "violence."

With the greatest of respect - "Bullshit".

Defame someone online and you'll get your ass sued. As you should.

"It may be said with rough accuracy that there are three stages in the life of a strong people. First, it is a small power, and fights small powers. Then it is a great power, and fights great powers. Then it is a great power, and fights small powers, but pretends that they are great powers, in order to rekindle the ashes of its ancient emotion and vanity. After that, the next step is to become a small power itself."

Agreed.

Except that if you're skilled enough, you can hide yourself so as not to be caught.
And it's probably more difficult to do in meatspace.
