Jeanne Assam, the female congregant who shot a gunman who entered New Life church Sunday, said she felt weak as she approached him because she had been fasting. "I prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide me, for the Holy Spirit to be with me," she said. "My hands weren't even shaking. I knew what I had to do."

The concept of a security guard at a church is hard to process for me...I haven't been to a church in a long time, but I don't recall there ever being armed security people.

Secondly, what kind of security guard goes on duty after fasting? isn't that analogous to a doctor or pilot drinking within X hours? aren't you obligated to be in full control of your mind and body when armed?

My standards seem to be too high or something.

Apparently, God guided the bullet!
Fasting is used by many religious organizations. It's easier to control people's minds when they fast.

I've seen armed guards in a church before. At St. Peter's in Rome they had these guys with big axes and swords. Let me know it'd be a real bad idea to make a scene.

You know...and, jeez, ain't this coincidental...that's the same aiming method those crazy jihadis use...

Of course, clearly those other eight suckers who caught lead were evil in the lives of Baby Jeebus.

Unless I'm missing something in the story, she wasn't there as a security guard, but as a parishioner whose 'day job' is to be a security guard. Going armed to church also seems odd to those outside of Merkia... but ya know, an armed society has done a pretty awesome job of preventing massacres there recently, so what do we know?

Nemine, apparently she *was* a 'church security guard'.

I found it funny that they had to say explicitly that she was a "female congregant". On the other hand, from the picture it isn't entirely clear.

If this is the same "New Life" "church" I am familiar with, they're the vanguard of the new "Megachurch" phenom.

Gunman probably thought he was going into a mall.

Probably she did too, after fasting you never know what kinda hallucinations she'd been subject to.

I bet she ate before the interview, though.

So, is it good she was there and armed or not?

Sure.
He could've had at least two more rounds in the clip...if not many more.

Just throwin' this out there...

Would the same laws that allowed the female churchgoer to carry her weapon be the same laws that allowed the gunman to carry his weapon?

Just, y'know, sorta runnin' it up the ol' flagpole, see who throws the first stone...

And did he legally acquire?

Hmm... He might be right, a "part-time" security guard at a church might not have a permit to carry a gun on duty.
