Got the yearly memo about how faculty, staff, and students are supposed to act at the George Washington University, which basically surrounds the World Bank and IMF buildings:

RE: World Bank/IMF Meetings October 19-22, 2007
________________________________________________________________

WORLD BANK/IMF MEETINGS

The Fall World Bank/International Monetary Fund (IMF) meetings will be held in Washington, D.C., Friday, Oct. 19, through Monday, Oct. 22. The addition of Monday to the main meeting schedule will complicate the impacts we will experience this time. Demonstrators are anticipated to be more active than at the past couple of IMF-WB Meetings. As such, there will be a large and visible police presence during the meetings.

Demonstrators are expected to march early Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, from Franklin Park to Murrow Park and should not impact GW directly (K to 15th to M to 16th to H to Murrow Park).

Remember to carry your GWorld card on you at all times.

Pedestrian access will be preserved to all GW properties throughout the meetings. There is no requirement to move any event or close any building.

The limits described below will be in effect from after evening rush hour on Friday, Oct. 19, until after evening rush hour on Monday, Oct. 22.

PEDESTRIAN ACCESS AND ROAD CLOSURES

The pedestrian limits (inner perimeter) will be bounded by the eastern edge of 20th Street, the southern edge of Pennsylvania Avenue, the western edge of 18th Street, and the northern edge of G Street.

No vehicles will be permitted into the following areas:

20th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue south to just north of Francis Scott Key Hall. (This will affect the underground parking for 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue.)
19th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue south to about 200 feet north of F Street.
18th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue south to about 200 feet north of F Street.
H Street from the Blue Light Station east of the Media and Public Affairs Building east to Pennsylvania Avenue.
G Street from 20th Street east to 17th Street.
Pennsylvania Avenue from 20th to 17th Streets on Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21.
No trucks or buses will be allowed into the area bounded by the eastern edge of 21st Street (from Eye Street at Pennsylvania Avenue to E Street, the northern edge of E Street (from 21st to 17th Streets), all of 17th Street (from E to Eye Streets), and the southern edge of Eye Street (from 17th to 21st Streets).

Deliveries to anything inside that area need to be made before the close of business on Friday, Oct. 19, and cannot be made again until after evening rush hour on Monday, Oct. 22.

These restrictions also apply to GW buses.

CAMPUS PARKING AND SHUTTLE CHANGES

The surface parking lot at 20th and H Streets will be closed starting Friday, Oct. 19, at 8:00 p.m., until Monday morning, Oct. 22. On Monday access to the lot will only be possible by heading east on H Street and showing a GWorld card at the control point.
4Ride vans will be able to operate up to the vehicular limits.
Modified Colonial Express and Vern Express routes, if required, will be controlled by UPD and the Mount Vernon Campus and kept up to date on the Campus Advisories page transportation link.

COMMUTING TO THE FOGGY BOTTOM CAMPUS

If you do not need to be on the Foggy Bottom Campus on Saturday, Oct. 20, or Sunday, Oct. 21, it is best to remain off the campus.

Plan to arrive early on Monday, Oct. 22. The additional day of street closures will likely make rush hour more challenging.

GW STATUS: NORMAL

Really, the entire affair could be sorted out with well place mines. Your student/faculty cards could alert you to the presence of said mines. Police presence wouldn't be required for a couple of day and then only to ensure a smooth "clean-up' of resulting human detritus.

Silly government officials, you try too hard!
