Just saw this article over on /. and thought it might be of interest here, too. All about using digital watermarking to track forged photos of Kerry back to their forgers.

A very intelligent friend of mine spent a year researching digital watermarking, to come to the conclusion that "it doesn't work".

To be clearer, it doesn't work for detecting when your intellectual property has been stolen. What it *is* good for is authenticating that content you download comes from where it says it comes from.

Highjackin of thread:: [HIGHJACK]

WHY THE HELL DID GOLLUM HAVE TO TALK TO HIMSELF IN SUCH A STUPID WAY AGAIN???

My theory is based on the well researched notion of schizophrenia and personality splits.
which is found in the source and the effects of traumas.
this is however must prevalent in the US. Multipel personality disorder (MPD)

This is appearent in the "book" and a plausible casue to stress that feature in the movie is to introduce the audience to the doublesided nature that constitutes gollum, the battle of good vs evil, as caused in the most extreme way, by the ring. But I think the real reason was to pluck some "comedy points" in this otherwise "serious" story.

And the obvious; the actor that plays
gollum is good at acting out these kind of behaviors and the same rings true for the computer animators.

Talking to the camera is unforgiveable in a so-called 'epic' film. So much of RotK was terrible. It so doesn't deserve the amount of praise it gets.
