Maybe I should have highlighted the relevant part of the quote. What is the reason for a weekly conference call with Christian leaders?

Bill Gates to Alwaleed, " So now that we are going to be in the hotel business we have to mingle with hotel people. You know what that means right?" Alwaleed, "Double dates with those Hilton sisters?" Gates, "Fuckin-A right!" -- |

This really belongs in "schadenfreude news." The fact that I know people who (used to) go to this guy's sermons makes it even more delicious. |

Testing the waters is different from launching, but still. A Giuliani/McCain ticket would be a *dream* for supposed moderates and very tough to beat.

The exploratory committee is required to run I believe, you can't just announce. He is very regional but with McCain he will have strong appeal due to good experience and recognition. Nobody has ever called either of them stupid, nor are they overly friendly with the religious right which is finding itself increasingly on the outside if the stories I am reading are true.
To be honest I could think of far worse opponents. edit; I mean worse as in worse choices for the job, we aren't likely to see a stronger GOP candidate than these two. Unless of course Powell decides to go for it, which is unlikely given his repeated refusals. This message has been edited. Last edited by: editengine, -- |

I agree, edit... a purely hypothetical Giuliani/McCain ticket might have a chance of being a) competent and honest and b) want to work in a bipartisan way.
I mean, at least Giuliani can speak in complete sentences. »» "Forget infinity. I've got books waiting for me to read them." — colin »»"Speculative novels of last Tuesday." — William Gibson |

Vinny Gambini: It is possible that the two yutes... Judge Chamberlain Haller: ...Ah, the two what? Uh... uh, what was that word? Vinny Gambini: Uh... what word? Judge Chamberlain Haller: Two what? Vinny Gambini: What? Judge Chamberlain Haller: Uh... did you say 'yutes'? Vinny Gambini: Yeah, two yutes. Judge Chamberlain Haller: What is a yute? [beat] Vinny Gambini: Oh, excuse me, your honor... [exaggerated] Vinny Gambini: Two YOUTHS. -- |

Honey, you're killing the civilization.
OJ tells how he 'would have' murdered those two people, 'if' he had done it. |

Yup. I kept questioning myself, trying to figure out if I was overreacting, but I don't think I am. It is horribly, horribly offensive on several levels. I'm not easily stumped, but this one has me stumped.

I saw something about that on the idiot box a hour or ago. His own publisher says it seems like a confession. And the tv or movie or whatthehell is to be done by the fine folks at Faux. This is one of the reasons I hate to use the words "America" and "Culture" in the same sentence.
I just did it and it hurts, see? ---------------------------------- |

The publisher and any bookstores that will carry it are currently #1 on my shit list. So he killed a couple of people and got away with it. Okay, okay, it happens. The cops fucked up, the prosecutors fucked up, everybody fucked up but his lawyers. Them's the breaks, and I can accept that. I accept it all the time.
But who would publish this? What rotten pus sac of a human being would publish this? And what santorum-speckled piece of shit would stock this in their store? Holy Fucking Lone Ranger, it makes my kidneys hurt. |

See, there's this rule in the US: If something will sell and get you a ton of money, you make it. I think a more important question is, "Why are so many people going to buy the book?" -- Fanaticism is nowhere. There's no tenderness or humanity in fanaticism. - Joe Strummer |

I think if I see someone carrying the damn thing I'll punch them in the neck.

Good, so we've got Seattle and the Bay Area covered. Anybody else up for some neck-punching?

Maybe we are underestimating our fellow humans. Maybe nobody will buy this book. Maybe people will be so disgusted by it that huge unsold piles of this book will have to be pulped and the publishers will take a bath.
It could happen, right? |

Sure. Wait. Why are we punching necks?
Maybe you're right. Then again, maybe I'll stop confiscating cigarettes off the school kids at the bus stop and selling them back at inflated prices. The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |
