Pierce did, indeed, rock. And he made it into one the best shoot 'em ups ever, Goldeneye 007. And I still take pride in Aus being the only non-British Bond...even if it was Lazenby. (You've got to admire Lazenby: he was a car salesman with no acting experience, who spent most of his savings on a Savile Row suit and a Rolex, bullshitted about previous acting jobs, and got the gig!)
Any Angles here want to tell us about the new guy?
Personally, I think it was an awesome choice. Before you poo-poo him, you must answer the question: Have you seen Layer Cake?
Motherfucker was incredible in Layer Cake. Fuck Tomb Raider. It was eye candy. Everybody sucked in Tomb Raider. Motherfucker was fucking incredible in Layer Cake.
He has this Steve McQueenish way of giving an almost completely straight, stoic face, but betraying it with just the slightest hint of a mood or thought. And because it's displayed on that straight, stoic canvas, that one little hint comes across like the clearest, cleverest message ever displayed.
He is capable of more appearance of genuine depth than any prior Bond but Dalton. And Dalton was so atrocious in other ways that that one little talent got lost in the suck-fest.

Yeah, me too. About the new one I remember seeing him in different things (don't ask me what; I don't remember) and the impression he left me was not bad. I can see him doing Bond just fine.
As for the misses in Bond choices I put Roger Moore right next to Dalton. I despise Moore even more so. He had that something that totally ticked me off.
I loved Moore! Smug, sarcastic Englishman. Drier than a vodka martini.
I liked Lazenby for his balls and his background, as I've yet to see all of OHMSS. Ex-Aussie Special Forces martial arts trainer. How cool is that? Broke a stuntmans nose during auditions: one of the reasons he got the role. Did most of his own stunts; he is a prizewinning skier, apparently, which came in hand for the movie.
Dalton was...average.
I do like that Australia's the only country outside UK that's had a Bond. (Pierce is Irish, Dalton Welsh. Guess where the others came from).
I didn't really like Timothy Dalton. He didn't do it for me as far as sex appeal. He was the type of Bond who I could snap like a twig over my knee....
I remember watching the different Batman movies and wondering which Batman I didn't like so much. Michael Keaton will always be Batman for me. He carried that darkness really well. Val Kilmer reminded me of a lot of preppy country club boys I knew in Southern California. George Clooney seemed, well, a little too funny to be Batman. I haven't watched Batman Begins yet, though I heard Katie Holmes' performance (you glassy-eyed, vacant-minded little thing, you) majorly blowed. I don't think Christian Bale would horrify me as Batman, though.
Lazenby may be my favorite as well. OHMSS is very good. Brosnan, Connery and Lazenby were all quite good when given good material. Part of Dalton's and Moore's problems were that they got most of the worst scripts. But that said, Moore was just begging for a knuckle sandwich, and Dalton tried to take the character in the wrong direction.
I think the new guy could be the best yet, given a decent script. There's the catch.

[pedantry] There are some large red-headed men with shamrocks in their lapels outside your front door wanting to discuss Ireland's membership of the UK... [/pedantry]
