It's not piracy if a CEO does it.

Boing Boing suggests that article is slightly exaggerated.
(I thought the article sounded a little weird, in that it raged on and on, but didn't give much detail about the supposed law in question.) ________ A child wounded in body and spirit. An iguana driven mad by pain. A woman fighting to save them both and the man who is their only hope... |

Ahh, selected shops in Munic have now started selling DVD-D's.
DVD-Disposable that is. Yup, once the disc started to rotate a chemical process will start which is going to destroy the Medium within 48 hours of the first time you viewed it. Here is more, in German. Update: how it works in English. Seems to be a different technology then the German one, but some idea. ___________________________________________________________ "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." Friends of TorrentSpy,
We have decided on our own, not due to any court order or agreement, to bring the Torrentspy.com search engine to an end and thus we permanently closed down worldwide on March 24, 2008. The legal climate in the USA for copyright, privacy of search requests, and links to torrent files in search results is simply too hostile. We spent the last two years, and hundreds of thousands of dollars, defending the rights of our users and ourselves. Ultimately the Court demanded actions that in our view were inconsistent with our privacy policy, traditional court rules, and International law; therefore, we now feel compelled to provide the ultimate method of privacy protection for our users - permanent shutdown. It was a wild ride, The TorrentSpy Team "Big Brother in the form of an increasingly powerful government and in an increasingly powerful private sector will pile the records high with reasons why privacy should give way to national security, to law and order [...] and the like." - Justice William O. Douglas |

Are they trying to outlaw tribute bands? What's the bet checks for illicit media will be more thorough and time consuming than those for weapons or explosives? The Lithos School of Curiousity is now enrolling |

How in the fuck is that legal?
Proprietary information, client lists, sensitive and lucrative databases that the companies depends on for survival..., how can they demand such things? A dictator, sensing loot in the catacombs of an invaded nation, would behave in such a manner. This is not fair, right or legal, but that probably won't stop them. Most people probably won't care until the order comes to their doctors, lawyers and shrinks to turn over the information that was once upon a time thought of as being private. It's too bad we voted our privacy away. I remember it as being kinda nice. As far as I'm concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue. -Albert Einstein |
