Catholic politicians who defend abortion should not expect to remain full members of the church, Scotland's most senior Roman Catholic will warn.

-once again the church in scotland tries to interfere with politics.

re-the saudi suicide - they were talking about it on the radio this morning, saying how they would try and ensure his body was disposed of in a cultural/regligiously appropriate manner. it struck me, perhaps they should have thought of ways to approrpriately treat people before he killed himself?

i think you mean give him a nice glasgow kiss?

was reminded of watching "goya's ghosts" as i listened to this on the radio - and was at least glad they don't have the power of the inquisition, even if they would like it!

What does a girl have to do to get excommunicated

Read an article on Salon.com not too long ago that basically said that priests saying that pro-choice Catholics run the risk of church censure are talking out of their arse.

Evidently their are strict rules and procedures to go through, and their are justifiable exceptions that can protect someone from it.

Religion usually makes for interesting reading.

Paris Hilton released from jail after 3 days, due to undisclosed "medical problem", possibly the rare mydadisricherthanyourdad syndrome.

After saying she would be treated like any other prisoner, then giving her a cell on her own, then allowing a 2 hour psychiatrist visit on her first day...

Well, I suppose being a twit of that magnitude could be classified as a medical problem.

Such a goddamned crock of malarky...there is no justice, merely an economy.

This is bad news, to see how terror justifies excesses, but this is worse.

What the fuck is that fucktard promising now? Does he even have a clue?

It's very indicative that not only did they not have any protests accompanying his visit.... but The city's streets have been cleaned, US flags draped over buildings and a commemorative set of stamps issued for the occasion.

So many jewels in this article....

In Italy on Saturday, Mr Bush expressed frustration at the lack of international consensus on granting Kosovo independence from Serbia. He said it was "time to bring this issue to its head".

This is the balkans. There is no right side. You either let things fester slowly or light a match and blow the whole place to bits. That asshole is holding a match again. Can the US foreign policy please PLEASE keep their grubby paws out of this powder-keg we live in and mind their own business for once?

As I recall it, that has not been the perspective of the Bosniaks and Kosovars I have met. With the natural exception of those convinced that Allah is on their side and they should be allowed to extinguish their oppressors with no help from infidels.

But I'm not Balkan, so what do I know?

You're choosing one massacre over another. Something all truly practical and moral people do. The reasons behind such choices... best beer-and-cigarettes-soaked discussion matter you can ask for.

Do I ever argue with you about things in south america RUR?

There, you made your first assumption.
Because you've spoken with a couple of people from this area, what makes you think you understand the situation or have seen the big picture? It's like saying "I know how to make things right in the Gaza strip cause I've spoken to a couple of orthodox jews."

What people really need in the Balkans is a period of stability and without conflict so they can finally rebuild the ruins and move on.
What the Albanians know and know very well how to take advantage of is one rule; the only way to shift borders here is through conflict and blood. And the Albanians want to shift borders. period.
