It's partly why we're in the mess we're in. Your position is the position our monkey minds want us to embrace, because it allows us to believe what we're told in the carefully selected, earnestly presented sound bites of the day.

And that makes us feel better. Makes us feel like the world makes sense to us. Same way as agreeing with ourselves to accept the Bible as the word of God. Same as every other time we make a little bargain with ourselves to believe a lie, properly fortified with symbols and pomp, in order to feel a little better and get by another day.

Pointless to argue against. I'm just some dude on the internet, not a cosmic force like natural selection. Don't expect me to join the circle jerk, though.

So again, they're not the same, but on the things I care about they're close enough to being the same that I want McCain in the Oval Office almost as little as I want Bush there.

THAT I can understand well enough and fully respect. And it's what most people probably think and mean deep down when they say Bush and McCain are identical. The fact that they're not held to a higher standard, encouraged to speak sense, is a little depressing. But whatever. We've only barely come down from the trees.

Talked with my local candidate for U.S. Congress about my idea concerning US Savings Bonds. He likes it. Gonna make it part of his campaign. Here's what sold him:

ME: "So, like your opponent's gonna campaign against US Savings Bonds? Debate against them? Say they're a bad idea?"

You have to talk in terms of the politics of an idea or you won't get heard. Which is fine. I can jump that rope.
