Anyway...how about that Medvedev guy?

Has Putin asked to borrowed the Diebolds from the US?

no, we sold them the plans back in the 80's with only a few glitches and a backdoor or three.

I hear the Russian machines are quite secure and totally on the up-and-up, actually. The problem comes in with the armed Medvedev robot who watches you vote.

Ah, you're still using them this November, though.

Putin and Medvedev go out to lunch. Putin is hungry for a steak, and steers Medvedev into an appropriate restaurant. Putin orders.

"I'll have a steak."

"How would you like it, sir?"

"Still a little pink."

"And the vegetable?"

Putin waves his hand at Medvedev. "Yes, the vegetable will have steak, too."

Well, Medvedev's in.

I admire a man who can create a name of three syllable using as many letters.

If I was a less lazy man, I'd dig up the article that showed the "incentives" given to voters. Bald-faced ones, like free entry to nightclubs (and Russian nightclubs get pretty exclusive.)

That's an old joke. I remember it being about Margaret Thatcher and her Cabinet. I expect it pre-dates even that.

Ah. It was new to me, but I suppose it's been recycled a few times. TIME included it in their writeup on Putin for man of the year.

Henry Kissinger was on Charlie Rose talking about this on Friday night if anyone wants to see it on Charlie's site.

My friends from St.Petersburg said the youngest voters there were given usb flash-cards and even mobile phones, and others - flowers and... corvalolum )))

Actually these things are not new in Russia. In the beginning of 90s, when millions of people didn't even understand clearly what election was for, they were given beer like "incentive".

This time, I guess, these actions were made not to guarantee kind of an equity of results, but just to provide for a necessary quantity of voters. Becouse we all new the results a long time before the election.

About Medvedev.
Yeltsin has chosen Putin as his successor. Putin soon broke down everything Yeltsin's built and raised in his own way.
With Mr.Medvedev it's gonna be the same thing we guess.

And, if you guys dont know yet, it will be an economic slump in Russia soon. Just like 1998. Some mention April-May, others - August.

We're getting ready for our own here in the states. Can't fight too many wars in too many places for too long...

Anyway, welcome.

Well, that's a quite fatalist feeling... Smile

Anyways, I have a business partner that says: "be carefull with morons. When you think you devised every stupid thing they can do, they come out with something new to screw your plans."

That's a major truth when it comes to politics and economy.

I LOVE listening to Kissinger, if only I could temporarily remove my semantic capacity.

Ah, VanillaKiller, welcome to the board. And welcome to democracy - Russia seems to be handling the important facet of pork-barrelling very well.

Possibly a reason why democracy's not going too well in Iraq.
