"...a McCain/Lieberman ticket would be far less divisive than an Obama/Biden victory, and assert that this is a fatal blow to the Obama campaign."

I doubt it, Gromit. Lieberman is pretty slimy. As you say, he makes peoples' skin crawl. He's icky. A turncoat. A sycophant.

I think his presence in the McCain campaign does more to hurt the campaign than not.

Can I just say here how bad a candidate McCain is?

I don't understand how he even got to be the candidate for the Republicans.

Having been born and raised in Chicago, I would be struck by lightening if I voted Republican, so I don't pay much attention to the Republicans unless they're a direct threat. So I haven't followed McCain's career much. But watching him in this campaign leaves me a bit puzzled.

For one thing, he's old. No really, he's old. Ageism aside. The dude. Is. Old. Almost dead.

That seems mean, doesn't it? I know. But what the fuck? I'm old, not as old as McCain, and just barely old enough to actually hold the office of POTUS, but c'mon. You gotta know when to fold. Know when to walk away. And know when to run.

I mean seriously, do we want to elect a president that might die of old age in his first term? I mean the guy's starting to show the signs. He has trouble keeping up intellectually as it is, do we really want a guy in office at this time in history who has trouble keeping up? I personally don't want some doddering motherfucker running the country right now.

I mean, age is not necessarily the most negative reason McCain's a bad candidate, but it's a big one. We have lower age limit, maybe we should have a higher one too. Sure, not all people in their 70s are out of touch with our society and culture. And many people in their 70s and beyond are healthy, active, and intellectually acute. But this is the presidency of the United States of America. It's a very demanding job. You've seen what people look like before and after serving the presidency. By the time Barack Obama is out of office, he's gonna have more than just a few gray hairs.

Did anyone here today have any trouble remembering how many homes they own?

Unbelievably, we got a guy running for Pres. that does. Seeeesh, it's bad either way. He either is so old and senile that he can't remember OR he has no grasp or knowledge of his own families finances, much less that of this country's.

I can't imagine a more elite class of people than those who have so many freakin homes they can't remember how many there are.

And they have the balls to try and hang that elite tag on Obama?

They're a blight on us all in this country. May their Reign of Error finally end.

Obama is an intellectual elitist.

McCain's wife's daddy made truckloads of money selling beer, and thus she is merely a financial elitist.

Any good hardworkin mobbed-up 'Murrican can bootstrap themself to nouveau riche blinged-out elitism, it's the 'Murrican Dream.

But that brain stuff...can't trust 'em. No sirree.

ETA: I forgot the wife. Sigh.

That's exactly what has me worried. I honestly think Obama would be the better president, but I can just see McCain winning on the votes of people who don't want to see a black, muslim*, intellectual snob in the oval office, and would rather have some rich old fucker that they can someday aspire to be.

* I know he's not muslim, but half of these people seem to think he is.

Exactly.

Obama accurately defines today’s GOP:
‘These guys take pride in being ignorant’
quote:
“Now two points. One, they know they are lying about what my energy plan is. But the other this they are making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4%. It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.

“You know, they think it is funny that they are making fun of something that is actually true. They need to do their home work, because this is serious business. Instead of running ads about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, they should go talk to some energy experts and actually make a difference.”
That'll never happen. They're too busy showboating about how stooopid they are. They and their supporters PROUDLY wear it on their sleeves.... t-shirts.... car bumpers ...etc. They're hopeless.

Having seen the ads run during the Olympics ad nauseam, I'm impressed by one thing:

Obama actually appeals to a spirit of "can-do" with regard to solving problems. Yes, there's the corporate regulation stance ("Tax corporations that take jobs to cheaper countries" while giving tax cuts to corps that create jobs here), etc. But in those ads, solutions are at least hinted at.

McCain's ads start with "Washington is broken" voiced by someone they cast because he can sound like Martin Sheen, go on to state that he's the "Original Maverick" (no, I'm pretty sure that was James Garner), and lists things he hasn't done in ten years. No appeals to what Americans can do if we put our minds and bodies to it (it's a cliche, but it's a useful cliche, and a heartening one, but I was raised by people who worshipped JFK, so what do I know), just the notion that McCain could fix it.

I hope this means Obama stands a chance of winning the advertising campaign, at the very least.

No ads mean anything. Debates don't mean anything (as long as neither candidate has a complete meltdown). Even McCain's "houses" gaff, probably the worst gaff in modern political history, amounts only to a percent or two on election day... if that.

There are actually very very few undecideds. Obama can be the best candidate in the history of the universe and McCain the worst and Obama will still barely win.

It's demographics. We're on the cusp, the faint rim, of a generational 10% shift toward more liberal views in the USA. That might give Obama a small but clear win. I think it will.

There's still between 45% and 50% of the people in this country who are closet racists, enraptured with teh Caucasian Jesus or criminally stupid. There's about 20% who are all three.

None of this shit makes any difference.

Yup, stupid people vote for stupid people. And America has a lot more stupid people than anything else. Intellectuals are a minority. Viz the president.

I think Obama has done reasonably good job of toning down his three hundred-page dissertations into finger paintings of "change!" and playing up the American Idol drama. Being relatable and star-like. But he does slip up now and again and retreat back into the small, remote ivory tower of individuals in touch with reality. When he does, he alienates the whining baby hippopotami waving remotes and makes them feel stupid, which only makes them scared and angry at you, call you an elitist.

Biden was a smart casting call, even if he's another hot shit law professor. He has the broke-ass kitchen-table credentials and can speak to the workers. Great theattre yesterday when he came out with no suit, wife in hand, sleeves rolled up like a hard-workin' blue collar plumber ready to get down into the sewer and fix the broken lines fucking the neighborhood over.

Fuck John McCain in the ass.

Apparently John McCain has trouble keeping track of other little domestic matters.

When a journalist asked him recently what kind of car he drives, he had to turn to an aide for advice.

(Apparently it's a Cadillac. The choice of non-elitists everywhere.)

And yet, when Obama misremembered the number of states there were people seriously saying that he had used the number of Muslim caliphates or some such...

Senator Thad Cochran (REPUBLICAN.-Miss.) on his thoughts about McCain becoming Commander in Chief.
quote:

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

This coming from a REPUBLICAN fellow United States Senator.

There certainly ought to be at least 51 states. Washington, DC's been fucked with long enough.

Heh. I'm actually expecting McCain to melt down. Seriously. I'd be goading him 'til he flipped out, screaming on the podium, spittle flying. A real you-fucking-little-bastards-get-the-fuck-off-my-goddamned-lawn moment. On national television. During a debate.

Camera pans to the shocked and silent audience staring. Cut to Depends commercial.

look ! it is the future

where?

right there---you have to gaze at it with a look of steely determination

ah i see it

but not too steely---kind of warm and wise, too

we can get in there and make everything nice for bob and tress

but bob ran away from ohio

i know, but he's still an american and he will be totally covered for any medical problem under our plan

true

but what about tress

she gave hillary 500 dollars

oh my god, 500 bucks

well, she drinks and smokes that in a weekend, so its not that bad, relatively

that's true i guess

isn't it weird that your own mailman didn't know who the hell you were a year ago?

ha ha i know, right?

and now you're president of the united states

it is trippy

but can we do it? can we make a difference?

if doggie can make bella fall for him, anything is possible, ain't it?

true! ! well, darn it, lets start building bridges to the future !

OK, big O ! i'm concentrating on the things that unite us !

not the things that divide us?

no way !

*high five*

*balloons*
